I wonder how much time out of her working day, the OP has spent on this forum asking for advice on this issue?
For God's Sake. Is this the type of mentality people have at work - "it's my hour and I'm entitled to it." No wonder the country is in a mess.
I advise the OP to take the hour off, go shopping in the shopping centre and then come back, get fired and let someone who actually has a work ethic get their job.0 -

That's a sweeping statement isnt it? Maybe the staff at your local hospital couldnt care less because they have to deal with people like you all day and that would be pretty demoralising even for a saint:rolleyes:
I was in hospital earlier this year..I was told one Wednesday that I needed an operation and I had the operation 4 days later and I was out the next day. During my time in the hospital the staff were always courteous and helpful - I wasnt in a private hospital either it was the good old NHS.0 -

Get fired for something you are legally entitled to? This would show that it is the employer that is in the wrong, not the employee...I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -

Mr Bendix,
Thanks! With that attitude, your lunch hour has now been cancelled. It no longer exists. I'd thank you for the free labour but I don't give thanks unless I really mean it. Obviously your not getting any more salary because that's not how I operate. If you don't like it, let someone who actually has a work ethic do your job.
Yours Sincerely

It is so terribly hard, eating crisps, isn't it? Nightmare.
Tell that to people who drive lorries whilst eating crisps. They're effectively doing the same thing, except they don't do it for free. Why should pinkkiss?Success and failure is determined by effort.0 -
I hope I don't have the misfortune to phone the OP's call centre when it is two minutes from the start of her lunch break!
From the heading of this thread, I think we all assumed that the OP was being regularly expected to work through her lunch break without payment. That would indeed be a different matter entirely. Once we opened the thread and read the first post, we were kind of drawn by disbelief to read the rest of it all - hence the number of pages we are now up to. :shocked:I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

As mentioned; this employer pays for a 20 minute break every day, for the OP. Terrible behaviour.
When they did the job evaluation they would have factored in that the employee would get a 20 minute 'paid' break and adjust the salary accordingly. It's not like it would have been a last minute thought or a gesture of goodwill. Employers are manipulative by nature and are there for profits, not people. Employers will do whatever is in their power to get one over the employee, time after time after time, if the employees don't do anything about it.
Naysayers to the OP seem to forget that this job won't be that much more above minimum wage with virtually no benefits, other than the glossy leaflet about some half ars*d healthcare plan and a 10% discount on Hilton hotels, or whatever.
The most important thing is that this is a matter of principle.Success and failure is determined by effort.0 -
OMG - when I saw the title I imagined the poor OP chained to her desk, subjected to tyrannical abuse and malnourished from long-term lunch-deprivation!!!
2 great things about this thread - I'm so lucky to have a job I like doing (and a boss who appreciates me) and I've finally found a cure for my insomnia!!
