DUBLIN DAY OUT ANY TIPS PLEASE :o)

Hi Mser's :hello:,

Im going to Dublin with my collegues on a Ryanair £2 return deal. Only thing Is we never really researched Dublin before we booked it and have just discovered its not exactly cheap. We were hoping on arrival to go for a traditional Irish brekkie then go see the sites for the day. We were then going to have a nice meal and a couple of drinks before we went home. As we are all so used to out meal vouchers from this site I have a feeling we are going to be shocked when we are there. Anyone know of any good but cheap eating/ drinking places and things to do whilst there. Im so worried that the money side of things may spoil our day out. thank you
 Thanks to everybody who posts the competitions.

I can recommend Bewley's on Grafton Street for an Irish breakfast that will set you up for the day and possibly make lunch unnecessary! The place is a delightful building and a Dublin institution in the heart of the city. The breakfast is wholesome, hearty and tasty. It's really not expensive by Dublin or UK standards considering what you get for your money!
Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!

buy your all day family bus pass (2 adults and kids dont matter if you have no kids) from the newsagents only at the airport opp the tourist centre, also ticket machine at bus stops directly outside airport, cheapest by half. pick up you map at the tourist centre. buses are very good and regular. Good area Temple Bar for eating, lunch 9 euros in pub approx with irish live music. a pint 6 euros. guiness brewery 15 euros each, get to pull a pint and get a certificate. all in all no change from 50euros for the day. have a good time.

Once you get to the city centre you can get a ticket for the round Dublin tourist bus. You can get on/off as many times as you like. Trinity College was our favourite.
  • I went to Dublin last yr with work and the guiness factory was worth visiting, we bought the bus tickets across from airport. Foodwise we had breakfast at Stansted airport and then had a late lunch/early dinner in a pub/ restaurant.
great day out but not cheap.
    Have a good time.

further to this comment, I would "avoid" temple bar area for food & drink
visit by all means, however if you eat and drink
make sure you have planty of euro's
from memory and not so long ago 6 euro's for a pint of lager in "the Temple Bar"

very, very pricey, full of tourists, no locals drink there
    possibly due to the prices

for the record a few other points
we did Dublin for "£2" amazingly cost £17.50 to park at the airport (Liverpool) for the day, yet £2 return on Ryanair
like others have said as well, thought Dublin was on the pricey/expensive side
    nice place, but not cheap

We were in Dublin on a ryanair special at the weekend. It was €5.50 for a pint anywhere in the city! €8 for 20 cigarettes. We found it very expensive but good fun!

oooooooooo i love dublin, me and the OH went last october!

1st: get yourself a hop-on bus pass for the red&yellow buses!!!!!!! You only pay once but get use of easily twice as many buses as the green firm.

2nd: The guiness factory is amazing!!!!!!!! The free 1/2 pint half way round, and the free full pint (with a shamrock drawn in the foam) in the rooftop bar almost matches the cost of the ticket! :D in fact my avator pic is of my free pint ;) hee hee

3rd: I'd hop on the bus and go to the zoo, doesn't take long to get there, less than 30 mins on the bus :)

4th: Temple Bar is brilliant, but go at night and watch all the street performers! They're free and brilliant! We found a great band called Mutefish who perform old rock songs in a traditional irish way. Have a look on Youtube for them doing Another Brick In The Wall ;)

5th: Visit Phil Lynott's statue on Grafton Street, great for comedy photos :)

6th: Go for a drink in The Bleeding Horse! It's a legendary pub full of history, and they do food! :D

*NB* BEWARE RYANIR FEES!!!! we went on a £1 each way deal, and it ended up costing us £45 for not using online check-in (which i'm told they now charge for too) I argued it as i had all the t&cs printed with me, and we weren't asked to pay anything in manchester, well that doubled the charge, and they refused to let us board til it was paid
