Ethernet port stopped working and subsequent problems

Hi I am wondering if anyone knows the answer to my current problem, basically last week I was online when all of a sudden my internet stopped working, following some testing I discovered that my ethernet port had stopped working (even though under system monitor it says it is) the reason I determined this was as I am using a Powerline Ethernet adapter to connect to the internet and it doesnt work when I plug it into the port but when I plug it in via a Ethernet/USB adapter it does.

Anyway since then my computer has frozen quite a bit with the blue error screen appearing, below are 2 of the messages I have received from it:

***stop 0x0000008e (0xC00000050xA329B1B1, 0x00000000****ADM511.sys-Address A329B1B1 Base at A329A000, Datestamp 3a8ba29a Beginning Dump of Physical Memory

and

Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL "STOP 0X000000D1 (0x00000003,0x00000002,0x0000000,0xAAE81B1*ADMS11.SYS-ADDRESS AAEB81B1*ADMS11.SYS-ADDRESS AAEB81B1 BASE AT AAE87000 DATE STAMP 3a8ba29a

Also I am not sure if it has any relevance but almost everytime I go to shutdown I get requests to install updates before turning off which I always say yes too, it may not be relevant but just seems odd that I have had so many requests lately.

  • Does anyone have any suggestions?
  • have you tried re-installing drivers for the network card?
  • Thanks, I have tried this but the problem is still happening though and the Ethernet port still isn't working.
  • Try booting in safe mode with networking. See if the network port works then.

To get rid of the "install updates and shutdown" try doing a manual microsoft (or windows) update. This will list the updates it is trying to load - make a note of the reference number(s).

Thanks for your advice, I will give it a try when I get in later.

Unfortunately I just have and the port still isnt working, I am wondering whether that stopping from working has caused the other problems or whether they are all part of a bigger problem.

    Can you reinstall windows?

And clarify the exact name of the sys file ADM511.sys? or S11 or something else, (search for the file adm*.sys on your hard disk).

If your connection works via a Ethernet/USB adapter that clearly suggests an issue with the Powerline adapter. I believe these powerline adapters plug into the power socket and pass traffic over the power cable?

If this is the case then sometimes they require resetting as they have an encryption device within them and both parts of the adapter need to be sync'd. I would also move them to a different socket and try that. If you spare cables change these to eliminate all the hardware components.

Re installing Windows seems a little over the top especially if the Ethernet.USB is working as you have an alternative connection.

I would look at the network adapter software and roll back to a previous level of software. As you say you have had a lot of updates, perhaps one of these has loaded partially or is a bad update.

Lastly if you installed any software for the powerline adapters, I would uninstall this software and delete any adpaters it created. Power off and power on. You can start the install again. I would also recommend that you never allow windows to automatically install any updates cause you don't have control over what is happening to your system.
