How much does Christmas cost you?

  • We do spend a lot and i would be too scared to add it up to be honest! We do have 4 children and a large family tho.

I buy things during the year in the sales (brought loads in the Boots 75% off in Jan for Christmas) and rarely pay full price for anything so this does keep costs down and its easier as i am not paying for everything in 1 go either so the odd amount of cash here and there spend isnt so noticeable.

  • my son about £250
    dad £40
6 siblings+ partners - my sons school photo and somethin small each/between them is about £40
16 nieces an nephews  the amount i spend varies but its capped at £15 ish, and ive managed to do most of them for less than £8

so total is roughly £500 which for 24 people i dont think is too bad

I have bought things i think practical that my son classes as a present like ben 10 pjs  so although he will get alot there isnt much he wouldnt have got had xmas never happened! I try to do this for other people aswell, like my nephew who is unable to work so is like most of us living on a tight budget - he loves gettin deodrant/shower gel etc cos he doesnt have to get it from his weekly allowance!
my brother actually enjoys xmas for the reason of new pants an socks lmao :rotfl:

thats obviously without all the gift wrap, bows, boxes etc, food (we dont go mad on the food really), stockings, xmas eve hamper etc etc etc

the big mistake we made this year was buying all the kids presents in august. there was redunancies made at dh's work which he survived but the company was still having trouble so we decided to buy all the kids presents just incase it went t!ts up.
since then, just about EVERYTHING we have bought them have been in half price sales!
next year we are giving mil money each week to look after so we can buy things the kids want when they go in the sales

Grand total - £534. I am v proud of this.... last Xmas cost me about 4 grand - all on credit  This Xmas has mainly been paid for by debit card although a couple of things have gone on my Studio catalogue - nowhere near as many as last year. I know it still seems a lot but I have cut right back and made hampers etc this year - I think a £3.5k saving is pretty darned good myself!

I have a catalogue that I use specifically for Christmas presents, I always take goods over 52 weeks interest free, that way I can use it every year, knowing I can get my girls the gifts they really want.

I have 4 girls aged 16, 14, 11 and 10, and a hubby who has to have everything. My spends so far are:

    Eldest around £420
    Second around £260
    Third around £80
    Fourth around £40

Still need to get main presents for third and fourth and stocking fillers for other two, approximating it will cost me around another £300 for the kids.

Will probably spend around £250 on the hubby, although it may be considerably more this year, because something I plan to get him involves a possible finance arrangement (funds allowing).

I generally have around £20 spent on myself, because I am the most horrible person to buy for.

To me Christmas is about the kids and while I can afford to buy them the gifts that they would really want, I do.... I was terribly neglected as a child and I probably over compensate when it comes to my kids.

I am quite late this year with my planning, usually I would have had everything bought and be laughing at others that are not so organised, but this year has been a little hectic and we have had to stretch the pennies that little bit further.
