in Credit cards
Hi,
I am wondering if i can book a friends hotel and car rental for an upcoming 9day holiday in spain using my credit card(so i can earn airmiles...)
It would be through Venere, whom you pay in advance with, and im yet to know who the car rental company would be.
In the past i have booked lastminute.com hotels with my credit card for friends, the room is paid in advance and they ask my friend at checkin for a credit card for any adittionals.
Is this the case also with Venere. I would assume so as the room is paid in advance, but i dont want them or the car rental company requesting the credit card used for booking....
Its a costly hotel, i can earn alot of miles -thats why its worth the effort for me to find out -be good for future reference also...
Many thanks.

You can probably make the initial booking. But both the hotel and car hire firm will almost certainly require a credit card swipe when your friend arrives. This is normal practice.0

If you pay for it in advance they don't ask for a card.0

Also watch out for the cc surcharge and make sure your friend is aware of it before you make any bookings etc.
I dont think you would be covered under a section 75 either but i may be wrong.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
That is far from true with most hotels and car hire firms. They want a swipe so they can charge for any " extras " e.g minibar or damage to the car.
Certainly car hire, some budget hotels do not require a card on check in. Last time I stayed in a motel off the M6, I did not pay anything extra, but then the TV was bolted to the desk and there were no incidentals like mini-bar or restaurants possible.0 -

True, however as the OP's friend will be staying in a foreign country the chances they will want a swipe are much increased.0 -
If your friend cancels, or runs up a mini bar tab whilst on holiday, which card will be charged ?0

If the card is used to pay for the booking up front, then that will usually be all that is charged to it.
Any further charges will go onto whatever card is used when checking in.
I pre-pay for a lot of hotels etc for business trips to get cheaper rates. Even with that I always get asked for a card to swipe when checking in.0 -
ive booked hotels online on my cc, without paying. On arrival I have given them a diff card to swipe. Never had a problem.04.06.12 no debt:beer:
