My son (currently on 11month Round the world holiday) applied for Tickets for next year W/Cup Finals in S/Africa online. His account was debited for the full amount and he was not informed prior to this that his application was succesful or not. The following statement however does appear on their FAQ's page
"If you applied online you will receive an email communication confirming the outcome of your application (successful, partially successful or unsuccessful)."
He has since emailed them to cancel his application and has received a reply stating that
"Once an application has been submitted, it may not be withdrawn, cancelled or changed."
Can anyone advise thanks

I guess it depends why he wants to cancel, if its a case of "he's changed his mind", I guess he should have read the T&C's prior to booking.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

The terms and conditions seem very clear to me:Completion and submission of the Ticket Application Form to the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ Ticket Center ("FWCTC") or the FIFA Ticketing Office ("FTO") or any third party approved and authorized by FIFA constitutes an irrevocable and binding offer to FIFA by the individual completing and submitting the Ticket Application Form ("Ticket Applicant") to purchase a specified number and type of Tickets for Matches of the Event in accordance with the terms and conditions set forth in the Ticket Application Form, including, without limitation, these Ticket Sales Regulations. All Ticket sales are final.
Did he actually read the t&c's before submitting his application?
Possibly the next most important term is the following:To ensure continuity of application and clarity, the Ticket Application Form (including these Ticket Sales Regulations) will be governed by, and interpreted in accordance with, the laws of South Africa.
I doubt you are going to find many MSEers that are conversant with SA law!Gone ... or have I?0 -
Those tickets will be like gold dust, I would consider them a short term investment0

Hi,
Thank you for your replies. He did read the t and c's and was of opinion that he would receive an email confirnmation that his application was successful or not before any payment was taken. This is the email he received back from Fifa which pretty much mirrors the post of dmg24:
"Thank you for your email.
Please note that all sales are FINAL. Once an application has been submitted, it may not be withdrawn, cancelled or changed. The transaction is final and constitutes a binding contract between you and 2010 FIFA World Ticketing (Pty) Limited. You agree to these terms when applying for your tickets.
It does not state on the website that you will be informed if your application is successful prior to payment being taken. Payment is taken instantly as soon as your application is successful. This is stated within the Terms and Conditions which you agree to and have to tick two boxes to say you have read and accept these conditions, the extract from the website is shown below;
2. Offer and Acceptance. Completion and submission of the Ticket Application Form to the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ Ticket Center ("FWCTC") or the FIFA Ticketing Office ("FTO") or any third party approved and authorized by FIFA constitutes an irrevocable and binding offer to FIFA by the individual completing and submitting the Ticket Application Form ("Ticket Applicant") to purchase a specified number and type of Tickets for Matches of the Event in accordance with the terms and conditions set forth in the Ticket Application Form, including, without limitation, these Ticket Sales Regulations.
Details of when payment is to be taken is also shown below, taken from the FAQs.
When will I be charged?
If your Ticket application is successful, the FWCTC will process payment immediately based upon the payment information you provided during your application for Tickets.
We are sorry we cannot assist with your enquiry any further, and should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact us.
Yours sincerely
2010FWCTC"
I have underlined the sentence that clearly states that the website does not state that he will be notified before payment is taken. However, if you go to the actual ticket application page, Fifa's very own "5 Step Ticket Application Process" states: Step 3 - Await a confirmation email to say if you're applciationm has been successful, partially successful or unsuccessful. Step 4 - Payment is taken. Is this not therefore contradictory?
Ialwaysgetdone - I'm sure the tickets will be like gold dust but, as I'm sure you know, moving these tickets on is nion impossible with the restrictions put in place. The fact is, my son has no intention of making money out of the tickets, he simply wants a refund on a process that seems to me to be ever so slightly deceiving.

How are they deceiving the purchaser? The fact whether you get an email confirmation is irrelevant unless it stated at that point you'll be given the option of final purchase or not, which it doesn't. I don't see your argument.0

What difference would it have made even he had been sent a confirmation email?
He applied for the tickets knowing the terms and wanted the tickets then, so what's the problem?0 -
Your son will be able to resell the tickets to fans who want them through FIFA in April.0
