What plan do you recommend for skype on a phone ?

I want to be able to use Skype with my skype out subscription on my mobile. I know I could go straight to 3 but their coverage where I am is hit and miss and as I am a light user, I am on PAYG and my calls and texts cost me 5p each compared to 3's 20p per minute call charges.
Another way seems to get a 3G phone and use the internet on another network to access skype. I don't know much about this but I think as long as I get a suitable phone (and I need a new phone no matter what I do) then I should be ok.
If I go 3 then my phone is £40 and costs are 20p a minute. If I go 3G on another network, then I don't know about the internet side of things but I suspect it will cost more. However, my call prices would likely be less.
The amount I use the phone is likely to rise from December but not that much and certainly not to levels such as 300 minutes or more.
I could do with some ideas, particularly on the skype through the internet on a 3G phone.

only 3 allows you to have free skype traffic as for as I know, other network wont let you as it's in the t/c like orange, even you want to pay extra for mobile internet and can get away with skype usage, you'll still get hit by the monthly traffic quota(500mb-1gb) enen they claim to be unlimited. good luck0

t-mobile dont block it and offer deals with eat as much as you want internet (well 12gig) with different terms if that helps.0
