Help!! Got a trojan detected what do I do???

Hi
I am fine on a spreadsheet but the internal runnings of a computer are a mystery so please be gentle with me.!!
My computer has been running very slow the last couple of days (slower than normal!) takes ages to get on internet, download emails etc.
I have not installed anything recently/opened attachments and I do not download music or anything like that
I use AVG free version (I know from what I've read on here what some of you think of it!!) and never had a prob until now!!
yesterday got a trojan threat flagged up by automatic scan assumed it dealt with it.
Today again twice during scans got a trojan flagged up
it said accessed file infected
File name c:\system volume\information\restore etc
Threat Name trojan horseagent2. ZZG
Moved it to vault and auto scan continued
Should I have done/ need to do something else. Help please
many thanks
ps forgot to say running XP and I did look at some of info in stickys but felt out of my depth and didn't want to make problem worse :-))

the filepath shows that the infection is hiding in some restore points. If you've moved it to the vault, you should be okay to delete the vault entries. I would:-
1. do a full disk cleanup (my computer - right-click your hdd and select properties. click disk cleanup, let it calculate, then select the more options tab and cselect to remove old restrore points. Allow to calculate and agree to the removals.
2. download Malwarebytes Antimalware from here:-
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Download Latest Version, install, UPDATE, and run a full scan. Fix all it finds and post the log it produces on here.
3. Download HiJack This:-
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
As above, Run a Scan and Save a Logfile, and post the log back on here. Don't try and Fix anything in HJT without advice.
...and we'll take it from there

AVG found it and has probably dealt with it, if you want to be sure, turn off system restore in control panel, system, system restore, and then turn it back on again, the virus will be gone from c:\system volume info.
Then scan with malwarebytes, and swap avg for avast of avira.!!
> . !!!! ----> .0 -
..but turning off sys restore won't delete the restore points that have already been created, which could well be harbouring the trojan....OP needs to fully clean out, and create a new restore point that's not infected......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I will try this tomorrow as bit late now but I assume hdd is hard disk drive? I have two c and d - d is hp recovery so I assume you mean c?
Might sound a really daft question but does a full disk cleanup get rid of anything on it - should i be worried about files I have on the hard drive?
also if i remove old restore points does that mean work i have done on some files recently will be lost (I do use memory sticks so nothing super important is on hard drive would be a nusiance though if I lost things!!)
lastly on point one what is cselect?? I told you I was useless when it came to the workings of a computer;)

1. Full disk cleanup only clears out old temp files, recycle bin, etc., NOT any of your files you have saved on the pc like docs, pics, music, etc. so no, don't be worried about your files

2. restore points contain system info at the time they were created, so again, no effect on "your" stuff
3. Cselect - my typo, sorry
, should just be select
oh, and 4. Yes, your C: drive, don't mess with your recovery partition
Once your system is clean (after everything above, probably), best to create a new restore point, then repeat step 1 again, so you'll have a clean system AND a clean restore point

Have closed hijack this box without fixing/checking anything. I have already noticed how much quicker the computer is runnnig so hopefully it is heading in right direction. obviously waiting for advice on hijack log but once that is done you say
Quote
Once your system is clean (after everything above, probably), best to create a new restore point, then repeat step 1 again, so you'll have a clean system AND a clean restore point
unquote
How do I actually create a new restore point??
Thanks for all your help so far Once this is done off to change all passwords and sign in details that I have ever had!!
Looking back I remember I went to go on the forums here a few days back and for some reason my log in wasn't automatically remembered as usual so I logged in and the font etc was different thought mse had been updated !! obviously not so I don't know if that had anything to do with it? but since then computer has not been a happy bunny!
