Albyota. Thank you for your earlier comments about this hob possibly being a 3 Phase unit originally, then being 'linked out using three seperate cables. If you would be kind enough to look at the 'Cougar Hob 6B90' at the Cougar Web Site.
I am not permitted, being a new user, to post links..
cougarmanufacturing, selecting hobs/6B90
...as you can see this hob has been designed to run from 3 x 13amp sockets.
Coming back to my original question, seeing that originally a cooker was fitted in the house, and running from the Consumer Unit via a 45amp Crabtree Cooker point, would the law not permit me to connect these 3 x 13amp cables 1.4mm2 to the hob via a 60amp 3 Terminal Junction Box.
Kind regards..0 -
O.K. not sure where you get 1.4mm2 cable from, NO SUCH SIZE 1.5mm2, 2.5mm2, 4.0mm2, 6.0mm2, etc.. it really isn't good to advise over a forum, without seeing it, just because it says you can connect to 3 x 13A sockets, you could, as you think, just plug straight into 3 wall sockets...... BUT NO! this would just take out the ring main MCB. if, like you suggest, connect all three cables into a juction box, and connect this to the cooker supply cable (fed from the 45 Amp MCB), would mean the 3 sets of small wires would be a weak link, if there was a fault the 45A MCB would not TRIP (de-energise) and the small cables would heat up causing a fire or short out making the metal hob LIVE..... please get a sparky to advise, £30 - £40 for sound advice or DEATH!! your choice mate! There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!

Your hob is designed to be plugged into three 13A sockets, so simply fit three of these:
or similar adjacent to the to your outlet point and connect each using a short lengths of 2.5mm2 cable to the cooker outlet.
It is very unlikley that all six hob zones would ever all be full on together and protection is provided by the three fused plugs.
Electric cookers often have a maximum rated load of over 12kW so your maximum rating of 9kW should be fine. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Albyota Again many thanks for your input. The three cables that are fitted to this hob read as follows.
VDE Black H07RN-F 3G 1.5mm2 250v 16amp.
I am only quoting the words on the cable.
regards.

Expresso Many thanks for your input and instructions. As you correctly say, and I quote

I think you'll find that is the maximum rating of the cable......There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!

Again many thanks for your input. I was not questioning your comments, merely as I said quoting the words on the cable. Yes I am glad that a solution was achieved in the end, with the best intentions.

If, as you say you are a keen DIYer, you will want to get this sorted yourself. if you follow the advice that espresso suggested, IMO it would be O.K, remember cables and fuses / MCB's are sized for a reason, using anything different is gonna cause a problem somewhere. good luck. There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!
