Printer recomendations please..

Hi we currently have a Lexmark P4350 photo printer..used it for photos for a while before realising it is cheaper and quicker to just send to truprint to do!
We buy the black ink for it always re manufactured about £13..we seem to be having a run of bad ones off an ebay seller though so haven't been able to print anything for a while now.

Tbh ide rather just have a good printer as opposed ot he photo bit..any ideas of which ones are cheapish but more so the ink..this was £50 half price so figured it was quite good.
Thanks

If all you want to print is black and white documets rather than anything with colour go for a laser printer, cheaper printing and you dont have all the problems with ink jets getting blocked, ink drying up and stuff like that. Or if you do want colour printing you can get a colour laser, a little more to buy but not much more to run

Agree with you 100% on that point. We've got a LexmarkX7350 and we've paid a small fortune in cartridges. Certainly won't bother with Lexmark next time around.

Thanks for the replys..unfortunatly whatever thing you buy these days someone always says 'don't buy xxx'!! the ink is only £10-12 is that expensive then? I just dont think we need the photo bit and think a simpler (just a printer) would be better..
Thanks ill check out some brother ones then.

Why..? :confused:can you explain please, i've a lexmark (P3150) & have never had a problem with it & can get cheap genuine cartridges for it on ebay........
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!
  • OK, bribrian, could I ask what you call cheap? I pay about £1/cart for my epson printer from ebay, and the cartridges are individual (6 colour), if I run our of dark cyan, I change just that cart!

    I have owned a lexmark...I remember the lessons I learned then :)

So what your saying is 'DON'T BUY A LEXMARK!' because the refills are expensive.
I've bought a few replacements on ebay for my sis-in-laws Epson R300 & payed in the region of £35 for them, my replacement cartridges are a fraction of that price............;)

3rd party compatible ink cartridges are definately the way to go. I recently bought some for my canon printer from "inkcredible", awful name, great service. I can't see any difference in print quality in both printed documents and printed photos. So, before you write off your lexmark perhaps you should give an alternative 3rd party cartridge a punt.

If you do decide you'd like a new printer (a 'normal' one) that is good for photos I suggest you check out PCPro's A-list and maybe visit a photography website or buy a magazine with reviews targeted at printers for photos.

Printer reviews at photoanswers.co.uk (Digital Photo and practical photgrapher magazines' website) to start you off! :D

If you just want mono printing laser is the way to go rather than messing about with ink cartridges. Much cheaper and more reliable that getting blocked nozzels because you have not used it for a little while.

Depending on the printer lasers are usually faster than inkjets as well.

Have a look at this on e-buyer
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/142342/show_product_accessories

    £84 for a mono printer.

If you buy a 2600 page toner for £52
It will do about 2600 pages
    so £52/2600 = 0.02p per page.

You can also get colour lasers and they dont work out any more expensive than inkjets do as far as i know.
