BT are not worth the trouble

Beginning of the month I agreed to swap to BT for broadband, phone and TV.
T.V is with sky..outside of any contract so only 1 months notice needed
broadband and phone with aol but due to their lack of service they agreed to let me out of a 18 month contract early (and for free)

Letter received from BT to tell me about home visit today to set the line and do any work needed ( the key wording on the letter is " An engineer WILL come to your HOME to check and set up everything on 14 November between 8am and 1pm")

Based on that I canceled AOL from midnight.

My husband works nights and he was in and up at 5am and I got up 8ish am...
Now,I have 3 dogs and the house is built in such a way that the front window (where the computer is) looks out over the road and there is clear view.
Hubby was online when I got up and sending emails ( one was time logged at 9.47am)
I did some house work but did not hoover etc as I was waiting for the knock on the door.............1pm nothing
Called BT and got through to the India call center to be told an engineer did come to my house 9.45am and knocked, put a card through and called my mobile
I checked the door (old council house so have to go past the door to the loo and fridge etc) no card. No dogs barking and they never miss the post man, JW or junk mail delivery
No message on my mobile either.Got the agent to call open reach and they gave a mobile number that I have never hear of, it makes no sense as BT sent me a text message on 12.11.09 to tell me about the appointment.

So long story short BT called me a liar and hung up on me. No idea when they are coming back, if ever and phone and broadband go off tonight..
I have spent 2 hrs on the phone to them and still no joy, the engineer is telling porkie pies and I can prove it but it is me the customer that will suffer.

Total waste of time and effort and I was happy to pay then £50.00 per month for the full package.

Really really peed off and never going with BT again

Actually this might be in the wrong place, vent and complain might have been the better board.

Though I do wonder if anyone has any ideas or thoughts about who might be best to go with.

I did look into the Dongle thing but that did not seem all that cheap either.

It depends really what you're after. If you want BT to come and sort out your TV etc., BT company representative will see this and offer assistance.

Unfortunately (and strangely), BT company representative appears now to have opted not to receive PMs, so I can't give them a nudge as it were.

OTOH, if you just wanted to vent your spleen, 45 people have read your post - so job jobbed as they say!
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

To be honest all I want is what I signed up for..

    T.V, Broadband and phone..

I didn't want anything fancy or flash, just what I agreed and would have paid for but for some reason the customer is wrong and a liar so I am not really sure where else to go

From tonight due to BT I have no phone or broadband so I am up a dark and windy creek without the paddle.

Not really sure where to go from here as tomorrow morning I will have nothing and no word from BT with a confirmed date.
Surely that is not to much to ask for ?

I like BT for my phone line. Very pleased with that.

I'd not touch them for ADSL or any of their other services for people who fall for their cool TV adverts.
  • Looks like I might not get the opportunity to find out how good they are for anything.

The complaint is with openreach now but no word from them about what they are going to do next.
I have received the home hub but as I am not connected it is a fat lot of good and BT seem to have lost all together my application for the TV so I don't know what package or price my bills would even be as I odored the whole lot.

I also did not get the call back from the manager as promised and when I called to track him down he would not speak to me so it just gets better and better.

Nice to see BT staff online ( or at least reading this, or am I just putting 2 and 2 together and getting 7 )..All of a sudden I have an appointment for Saturday coming 1 to 6 but as before who knows if they will actually bother to turn up.

Still not word about the TV though or making good on the promise of a manager call back

I don't know why BT's Reps arent accepting PMs but I have mentioned in the past that it may in fact be illegal (and certainly not recommended) for this data to be sitting at MSE. Personal data that is.

Apparently there's some ongoing chat about it.

I PM'd a BT Rep myself and got their email and then sent off my info. That's best and everyone knows what's what legally.

It seems this pm issue is nothing to do with the BT rep.

According to another rep, MSE have stopped all of them from using the pm system:
..... MSE have communicated to all Reps that everything must be in the open and therefore none of us have access to PM any more.

I thought it was to make sure that solutions to problems were shared with everyone rather than being "pm'd"

No pm received, or advise or help from the BT staff here. It was a phone call to me which just seemed odd to have arrived at that time and did mention a few things I had added here but then as I said I might well have put 2 and 2 together and made 7
