Hi,
My mother in law has booked a holiday to jamaica (flights and hotel) for both herself and us.
She took out insurance with the holiday company at the time, but we currently have year long policy which we took out a while ago with a company recommended by this site.
However, the holiday company now want to know which insurance company we booked with and what sort of cover it is etc.
Whilst we dont really mind telling them, we are just curious why they need to know?
Any suggestions
cheers

Probably to tell you that their policy is FAR better, i've had insurance companies tel me this even when their cover is inferior. Tell them but be prepared for them to say we only accept XYZ policies. they make a lot of money on singletrip policies.0

Thanks,
i thought it might be something like that.
Can they refuse to take us if we dont take one of their policies ?????

They want to know partly because if they become responsible for you (and if it's a package holiday then yes they are) they want to know which insurance company to contact to arrange eg for medical evacuation home.0

Make sure any pre existing medical condition (if applicable ) is stated.0

In the past I've just been asked for a company name and policy number. I assumed it was just so they could be confident we had insurance for reasons dzug says.0

Any time we've been asked they have only asked what type of insurance it is, who it is with and sometimes the emergency telephone number.0

The last few holidays I've been on, the holiday company has wanted to know who we were insured with, if we weren't taking their insurance (I have my travel insurance via my bank account). There has never been a problem, and they have never tried to flog us their insurance. I thought it was just because they wanted to make sure you were insured, so the company didn't have to sort everything out if anything went wrong, and you were uninsured.

thanks for the help.
having read the responses, i felt happy to give them the name and policy number, and having done so, they simply wrote and down and said thanks.
i do love this site and all the people that take the time and trouble to respond to questions. Thanks to all of you :T
