Hello
I posted this thread (see below) a couple of days ago on the "any other questions" board but thought I'd put it here too. Can anyone offer any suggestions? If not, please just extra careful when ordering from 7dayshop. I know I won't be doing so again. Please spread the word.
"Has anyone ordered stuff from 7dayshop (in Guernsey)of late? I've just ordered goods only to receive a card from the post office saying I have to pay a customs charge and Royal Mail handling fee to get my goods. When I rang Customs and Excise to see if a mistake had been made they told me I was "one of thousands" of people who had rung in to enquire/complain about 7 dayshop. Apparently 7dayshop always used to pay the duty and stamp parcels to say that this had been done but they changed their standard terms and conditions for a short period of time to say they would no longer pay duty. On looking at their website today they seem to have changed their Ts and Cs again to say they will now pay duty for all future orders. This doesn't help me! I know I have a duty to read Ts and Cs but having ordered from them in the past I expected these to be the same or at least not to have changed so fundamentally.
Is anyone out there in the same boat and, if so, any suggestions on how to handle the situation? I feel really aggrieved that I am expected to fork out an extra £30 now! I paid by credit card and am thinking about putting a chargeback in place if they won't reimburse the customs charge."
Thanks!

whats a chargeback please???
when you pay by credit card but you don't get what you think is the correct goods or services
First it's best to contact the company first.
If that doesn't work contact your credit card company explaining the situation. Often the credit card will reimburse you by crediting your card (particularly if you spent more than £100).
The credit card companies withhold this amount from the actual company you deal with so the credit card company isn't our of pocket.0 -
Hello travel freak,
Very surprised to hear that you had such treatment from 7dayshop. I just bought some stuff from them last week and no problem there.
Have you talked to their customer service? They maybe willing to sort this problem out, they usually are quite friendly and helpful.0 -
HIL - thanks for the explanation - yes that's right - a chargeback can be useful if you can't get anywhere with the trader.
baked beans lady - 7dayshop.com don't issue a telephone number and despite my emailing asking them to ring me to discuss they kept sending standard emails back referring to their terms and conditions or saying they were inundated and couldn't send an individual reply! At long last - after days of bouncing emails back and forth they have finally agreed to refund to my credit card the disputed customs charges - so we'll see..... I would still be very cautious about dealing with them in the future, though I note they've now amended prices on their website to clearly indicate whether UK customs charges are paid or not. As I say, according to HM Customs there are thousands of people up in arms about this - and I can't understand why they seem to have changed their policy for about 3 weeks and then changed it back. I will make sure I read Ts and Cs everytime now - even if I've ordered from a company in the past. Thanks for your replies.0
