FreeSat (not Sky)

Hi there
I need to do something to get TV upstairs now my analogue signal is no more. I have no external aerial and have Sky downstairs (free channels only). I am thinking of getting FreeSat, as I think that's my cheapest option. Will keep the Sky box downstairs so will only need to pay for a single FreeSat box and install for the upstairs running from my Sky dish.
I know Argos and Currys both sell the boxes and install (Argos coming in at £130 cheapest at the moment all in) but wondered if anywhere else does boxes and install other than an independant trader. Anyone know?

you can purchase a magic eye and some coquax cable for a third of the price and run the sky from downstairs upstairs and you can controll it with the remote using the magic eyeReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0 -

I have no idea what a magic eye is, or where to get one, or fit one. I especially don't want cables running all over the house either. As I understand it, FreeSat only requires cabling externally. Is that right?0 -

We did this in our last house, it was great, very cheap to do and no mess.
When i can find someone who has the strength to drill through the bricks in this house we shall be having the same again.
Everything you need here apart from the cable and connectors which can be picked up cheaply enough.

No, it will show you whichever channel the box is tuned to, otherwise no one would bother paying for multiroom!.0 -

OK, then totally unsuitable for me, as I mainly want to be able to watch different channels. Back to the FreeSat then. Come to think of it - can I just get Sky to fit another cable from my dish linking to the upstairs with another digibox? Multiroom needs a subscription which I don't want to pay as I only want it for free channels?0 -
You need to have the LNB on your dish changed from a single outlet to a quad outlet one, with a new cable run from your dish to your new Freesat system, cost about £20/£30 if you DIY.
Quad LNB's are available cheaply on eBay.0 -

If the OP has had a dish fitted by Sky in the last few years odds are it will be a Quad LNB already.====0 -
Or get a second hand Sky receiver from a Car Boot Sale for about a fiver.0
