you should be able to, I know orange let you register the sim again after you have ported your number, if you cant just pick up a free sim from whatever network your on and use that

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure things like pictures aren't stored on the SIM. They are stored on the actual phone memory and you shouldn't need to have an active SIM card in just to get at things like that. If you do need one in then l;ike snakeyes said, just get a free SIM and put it in.

You're right. The pictures are stored in the phones memory, or memory card if you have one.

If you have any trouble getting the pictures off the phone, let us know im sure we can google up some help with it.

The SIM card is purely your phone number, some contacts/messages (usually upto 100)

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

Does anyone know for sure if contacts and messages can still be accessed on an old sim after the number has been transferred?

I've done a bit of Googling and some say yes but some say this data will be lost.

(My daughter has her PAC and wants to know, particularly with regard to messages.)

Not as far as I know, network providers usually advise to backup anything on the sim before transferring the number.
