Will Summer Undo Lots of DFW Work?

  • nah it will be the same for me, most of my clothes are adaptable for winter and summer and i hardly ever take a cardy/jacket off in summer anyway. I dont like going out in the sun and if i have to (ie day out with family) i make sure its shaded or i take 40+ suncream (i burn in ten min maybe less). the only thing that will cost more is my water comsumption will go up but house keeping pays for most of that ;) and of course sun cream :D but i can see you with familys/children summer will be an expensive time :o

Talking of sun cream, I got a Spray SPF 15, Wilkinson's own brand for £1.99 today. Tried it out this pm and it's absolutely fine.

I was annoyed to see Boots doing BOGOF on Kids Nivea coloured spray at £10.99 last month - when you can buy it for £4.99 in Savers (I did the latter fortunately!)

I'm really cross at how often I see BOGOF and then the price is double. Neutralia shower gel is another one - on BOGOF in Sainsburys today at £2.49, when its £1.25 in Wilko. Not really free at all!

Sorry, rant over and gone off topic. Ooops!

Hi LA, thanks for starting this thread as it has helped make me think about the summer and get excited about it- I'm a real summer girl and just love hot weather, it really lifts my mood.

But I started to think about what you asked, do I spend more in summer? And I think for me the answer is no. There seem to be so many free things to enjoy outside that I don't have to spend so much to enjoy myself. Walking on the promenade by the sea, having sand castle competitions with OH, taking picnics out, just sitting in the garden in the sun reading my book, playing frisbee in the park (the more mates you can get to join in the better), watching the musicians in the bandstand in local parks, and free music days they have in the park at weekends. We often have a BBQ just for the 2 of us in the garden, it feels so nice as the sun sets on a balmy evening. Then we stay out there maybe having a few drinks and look at the stars twinkling in the clear warm sky...

We usually take our own food and drinks with us when we go out- take a cool bag to keep them cool, and put drink bottles in the freezer the night before to keep them cooler for longer. Sometimes I can't resist splashing out on an ice cream cone though, but the odd £1 or so doesn't hurt.

Do look out for free events on your local council website/ newspaper. And with clothes- I have been wearing many of the same ones for years, but I'm always so excited when the weather's warm enough to drag out my summer suitcase that I don't care if some items are looking a bit worn. Primark is great for cheap tops etc though. I snazz outfits up with different jewellery and accessories etc.

Hope you get some ideas from all the replies, have a great (cheap!) summer.

Thanks saraht, a really happy vibed post there I feel!

I am really envious of people who live in places near the sea or with great parks where there are always things going on.

I live in a pretty rubbish city I think (Peterborough). OK they have a festival once a year which lasts for 2 weeks but it's not all free.

Stuff is very limited in this City with regards events and there is only one park I'd think about going to (and you have to drive to get there  )

If anyone knows anyone who lives in P'Boro they will tell you as well that the general feeling about town has gone well down hill these days....it's quite intimidating now and not very 'social friendly'.

Oh dear I have turned into a right old moaner!! Sorry gang.

I will look out for what I can here and do what I can.

All of you guys who live near the sea...make sure you get out there and have a walk for me! ;)

LA - you're just under an hour's travel from me!

There's a museum and gallery here that is opening for free during the summer, the Embankment with lots of bridges to walk over the various stretches of river, they'll be musicians playing in the bandstand there too.

That's where the River Festival is and the Kite Show too. I know it'd cost the petrol, but bring a picnic and you could have several good days out here.

Could meet up if you'd like!

Looking-ahead, I was in Peterborough last Monday. We live in Corby, now that is dull. To me Peterbrough is exciting.

Yep, it does feel like it s going to be an expensive summer.

Not only are there all the new summer clothes to buy(Asda and Primark for me) but then everyone starts asking where you are going on holiday.

And as I was putting that one off due to the bad weather, now I cant avoid it.

    Ah well.
