O2 and 0845 / 0870

Just about to transfer from Orange to O2, just been through the small print, it looks like calls to 0845 and 0870 are included in your call allowance.

Can this be true?

Yeah as far as i'm aware they are included in your mins. I'm on O2 and have never been charged for 0845/0870/0844 numbers.

Before you get your fingers burnt with a large NGN bill, have a look at this thread. It seems that not all O2 accounts have the same T&Cs - the online ones seem to be the iffy ones. Don't rely on 02 customer services to give you the truth.

T-mobile make the situation transparent. 0845, 0870, and 0871 are all charged a flat 10p, no inclusion within the bundle.

It's a little-known fact that pre-dial.com's Orange access number allows you to make 0845 calls. Where you have X-net or Orange bundled minutes going spare, this means you can get them free by this means. When you have built up a significant calling-time credit from your handset that also gives you some free overseas calls, but it takes about 10 re-readings of pre-dial's explanation to understand all that.

Approach with caution....find out 1st...... I had an O2 line on contract from Singlepoint, and those numbers were inclusive in my free minutes. Hubby had a contract with O2 from O2 themselves and his weren't inclusive. ???

Just been reading the additional replies there, to confirm my O2 account is with O2 Online and 0844/0845/0870 number are included in my mins.
  • This site has links on it to the current 02 pricing in-store plans:
    http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices/tariffs/paymonthly_anytime/0,,113,00.html

The actual pricing plan can be viewed/downloaded here
    http://flash.o2.co.uk/products/pdfs/Q3_2004_Calling_Plan.pdf
    - it requires Acrobat Reader - available for free download here: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Buried away in the (very) small print at the bottom of the pricing plan is the following text:
"UK Fixed-Line calls include calls made in the UK to UK standard Fixed-Lines, voicemail menu access and retrieval, fax, and calls to free phone, local rate and national rate numbers (0845 and 0870)."

So these numbers are definitely included in high street price plans.

Online plans seem a little vaguer - found this on the 02 website:
Number of included minutes within your bundle, these can be used either Anytime or Offpeak depending on your tariff. Included calls are to any network including O2 and landlines, this excludes O2 Online 1000 which has calls included to O2 and landlines only offpeak.

Guess it all depends on your definition of "any network"

charges for 0845/0870 numbers are the main reason I left Orange, now I'm going to see if I can rejoin them on an Orange Value Promise Plan - looks quite possible:
