Which Type Of Debit Card Do I Have ?

I have received a new debit card from LTSB on my premier account (Old card broke), my old card had a £250 cheque card (Which I never used) but the new card does not have this, I phoned them and they said they no longer issue them with £250 cheque card but I could have one if I wanted, I dont want it but I just wondered if it was true, the other thing is I remember reading somewhere that a 2-in-1 card is not a full card and you cant use it everywhere including Pay@Pump, but this new card does work at pay@pump so how can I tell if it is a full card or not ?.

• Probably a similar card (minus the CG):

appears they are phasing out the cheque guarantee card.

• where you can use it depends on the type of card -

visa, visa electron, maestro, mastercard

I've got a maestro debt card, not had any problems buying things with it apart from online where its sometimes not accepted.

Compare your old to your new.

The card is EXACTLY the same as the old card, design colour everything except the old card hand a gold £250 hologram on the back bottom right and this one has none and that's the only difference.
• There is your answer,
same minus the cheque guarantee

So would that make it a 'Full Authorisation' card or a 'Normal Authorisation' card like has been talked about elsewhere on the forum ?.
• i don't think defines what type of card it is, didn't know you wanted to know this.

I would ask your bank

I was just going to ask the same thing - I have just opened a LTSB Silver Account and I'm awaiting my debit card - I wasn't sure what type of Visa Debit card I'd get - whether it would be an online or offline card.

I opened the account last week but still hadn't received my card so I called the call centre and they had said no card had been ordered and were unable to order one for me. I went into the branch and the lady in reception managed to override it eventually and order one - she says that may mean it's a full authorisation one - which isn't really much use to me - buying train tickets etc at busy stations it's much handier having one that doesn't require every transaction to be authorised - hence a lot of the machines don't accept them.

Surely every full authorisation card does not have to get manually ordered for this type of account. I opened the account in the branch and the adviser didn't mention any problem to me - only other thing I can think of is I applied to open the account online and then went into the branch with ID as requested. The adviser couldn't find the application even though the account number and sort code were printed on my paperwork. So we went through a fresh application and opened another account (he said not to proceed with the first application which held for 30 days) Fishy indeed.

I just assumed I would received a full Visa Debit card with the Silver Account - i.e. one where offline transactions can be processed. Hope I don't get a Visa Electron in disguise.

I asked the bank but they dont know what I am on about !, read elsewhere on the forum that a full authorisation card cannot be used at Pay@Pump but mines can, not sure if that is enough to prove it is an offline card or not.
• That means you have an offline card as Tesco pay and pump and in store terminals are generally offline - i.e. no check is made to see if you actually have the funds, only a check to see that card is valid and not stolen etc.
