I've narrowed my next phone down to two (I think!)
Either Nokia 5800 or the N97

anybody got any experience & would you recommend it?

The N-series generally are better quality, however i went from an N958GB to a 5800 and i love it. The N97 i have read is said to have bugs/problems, so based on that and my play with it in a shop i went with the 5800.

Any reason why you are looking at those phones, what features are you after?
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

the widescreen appeals for web-browsing mostly :)

open to suggestions if there's anything better out there ...
  • The N97 is bigger and heavier the the 5800XM - not by a huge amount but it is something to consider if this is important.

Both have software issues resulting from minor irritance (apps crashing) to being unable to make/receive phone calls!

As per Nokia forum posters, N97 has more problems than 5800XM.

So, 5800XM is a better bet - it is much cheaper too.

If you have a low budget, go for 5800 XM. If you have money to burn, instead of N97, buy HTC or iPhone.

In low end market, 5800 XM has no serious competitor.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

if u can find a n97 at a reasonable price then go for it, nice slide keypad, ok-ish camera, pretty fast otherwise.

5800 is a poor mans n97 to be honest lol

thanks - I don't have money to burn but want a decent phone - I can't afford an iphone but have a couple of very nice options on other phones - I'm now looking at the Satio - looks a good phone & I think I can get a reasonable deal on it ...
