We moved from a 3 bed terrace to another property 20 miles away, had a pretty average amount of stuff, including 2-sofa suite, tall fridge freezer, chest freezer and washing machine. Went for the full packing option (best thing we ever did) and paid, all in, £750. This was a very local firm BTW (Anna-T if you're in Reading!). We had very good, friendly and timely service and would recommend them.

A few years ago we moved from a second floor flat (no lift) and paid £800 self-pack with Edward Baden. We had a lot less stuff then but of course it was harder with all the stairs. They were very good but I shudder to think what they would've charged us this time round!

I paid £450 to move from a three bedroom house in April. Be very careful to check the quotes. We got three and two did not cover goods whilst in storage. When I queried it, got a glib comment "Oh your house insurance will cover that" and when I checked with NU they did not.

Another note. I went around town asking for boxes and was astounded ( this is move number 5 in 6 years!!) when I heard the response....no we don't have any. I know many a squashed for fire prevention and that companies want to seem environmentally savvy, but they have to PAY to have it removed. I also realise that they have recycling targets.
I have always been given them before. Some chap in Waitrose told me how they hardly pack anything in boxes and that they had none - only to bump into them on the way round the shop. I was fuming. I don't mind being told NO but to be fobbed off with his ideas of the environment when I studied it at University was highly annoying. He told me to buy them from Argos. Get real.
The wine shops are still great (don't mind popping in there!!) and Tescos gave what they hadn't ripped. I don't want to pay for anything if I can get it for nothing!!
    Got any boxes anyone?:p

I used the same guy twice in 2 years for removals.

They were absolutely fantastic, small local firm, nothing was too much trouble.

They even arranged the furniture in the rooms at the other end to our directions, and put the sheves together in the garage before unloading the inevitable boxes of 'loft' stuff.

Just in case anyone is local to these guys I will post their details here.

Colin Smith (same name but I promise no relation).

Call him and say Andy Smith, the guy they moved from Wash Water to Park Gate, then Park Gate to Andover last year recommended you. Ask him for his best price.

Personally I think that it depends on how much you have to move and how difficult the move will be.

Yup but as I said it will cost me £200. But I would love them to if I had the money. We have moved so many times and this one is not a very happy one. I have no spare money to let them. I worry a little about them breaking stuff too, but they are supposed to be professionals and insured for such. Next time huh?

Unfortunately no, but that was our choice. They would if you wanted them to but I prefer to do that myself.

We used dad's removals ;) and a Luton van for 3 bed house contents 5 years ago, but only had 15 miles to travel to dad's storage (good old dad) :j so knew our stuff was ok as I'd packed it myself :D

It also depends on the distance between old and new house whether you want to do it yourself, but we're only paying £3k to ship 4 bed house 3000 miles back to UK which includes packing/unpacking and insurance :j
