My friend bought an Apple Mac G5 0SX six months ago, and although inexperienced, he managed to set it up himself and started to use Plusnet for his broadband.
Three weeks ago, his coverage diapppeared and when he rang up there is a recorded message saying that the system is being updated to 8 gig, and that it would be another two weeks.
He has spoken to the customer services who have told him that he should now be able to use broadband, and they have suggested that he try a friends modem to see if that is what is causing the problem.
He has, in fact, bought a new modem, but thinks that he has messed up his settings, can anyone leave any advice that I can pass on to him, please?

seanparkin Please justify such an inflammatory statement.0 -
Inflammatory? Libellous more like.oldwiring wrote:seanparkin Please justify such an inflammatory statement.

Like the last two posters I have to go against seanparkin. Plusnet are excellent and very reputable. Ask anywhere. I'm sorry to hear your trouble, colmil, but I would be very interested - and surprised - if the origin of your friend's problems was Plusnet.
If Plusnet's suggestion fails I suggest you call them again. I have always found them to be very technically minded and helpful. After all they want the business. They will do all they can to help. I'm sure.
However, as I say, if you find out otherwise, do let us know.
EDIT ... see my further post below0 -
I totally disagree. Since plusnet took over my connection by taking over metronet i have had far slower speeds, traffic shaping and poor customer service.
I would also say leave them.Fortune's always hiding, I've looked everywhere......0 -

I agree there are similar problems I have read at other sites and also a feeling that plusnet gives people the runaround and don't admit to their own problems.
I read something about this in computer active, issue 216 page 13.0 -

Tjat is a properly expressed opinion, which you are entiled to
, but you havenot been inflammatory or as some have suggested libellous. Congratulations for that! TBH I use Plusnet and have had no problems, akthough I do have misgivings about the new premium no for high end technical suport. 0 -
Justify it?
Since I signed up (about 12 months ago) to what was a decent service (their premium service) at a decent price, they've slowly but surely absolutely stretched all service levels out as far as possible. Introducing the premium rate support line for the most pathetic support ever mostly fuelled by their own poor reliability of service, massive traffic shaping across their whole range (bit by bit), dwindling speeds, bandwidth caps and so on.
Two/Three months ago when they had massive service issues across the UK (downtime for me was about two-three days), and then introduced solid bandwidth caps on all their services (including premium) I took this as a change in contract, that I was unwilling to accept and attempted to cancel my monthly contract.
On attempting to cancel, they imagined up that I was on a 12 month contract (nope, I migrated and was on a monthly contract - paperwork to prove is available). They refused to acknowledge the bandwidth caps were any sort of change in contract and refused to let me cancel. They've proceeded to demand payment ever since and thats where it currently stands.
Trust me, get out of Plusnet. Their customers are like boiling frogs. They've started out in a nice cool pan of water, which has very slowly been heated up - They've not realised and now the pan is boiling.
I've realised and hopped out.DONE: Great North Run 09! Raised £452 for the National Autistic Society
