Help with CPW/O2 cancellation

Hi there
I've been reading a few posts regarding canceling my contract. I am coming up to the eleventh month and I'm aware that I need to write a letter soon (to the Southampton address).
I no longer use the phone that I had on contract, and no longer use the SIM. So, I know that I don't need a PAC code, but is there a landline number I can phone to get through to someone?
Also, is it 100% necessary to have a disconnection code? My boyfriend said he wrote to them, no code in the letter and sent it by normal Royal Mail and he had no problems in canceling his contract..
Not sure of the best way to start tackling this.. Thanks in advance for your replies

You will probably need to get a code given its CPW and you get to run around chasing them on the phone etc.
If you want to avoid the hassle - get a free sim with another network - get a pac code from cpw and use it straight away to transfer number to the other network - job done (seeing as you do not use the contract service).0 -
As always the code is a total invention and irrelevant. Write to the Southampton as soon as you hit 60 (NOT 30 as cpw would have you believe) giving notice that you are terminating the contract on the last day of its term. Send it recorded delivery and avoid calling them. They will call you soon enough.0

If you do have to phone them (Freephone 0800 049 0049) & they try to give you a hard time, just threaten them with going to OFCOM.
They'll soon co-operate.

It's frustrating, but just get the code and send the letter. My PAC was then sorted quickly -- but it was a pain not to be able to do over the phone. I probably wasted too much time trying to chase this.
Instead just be firm, ask for the disconnection code, follow the instructions they give you and don't take any nonsense. What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0
