What make laptop?

Is Acer a good make for a laptop?

Had bad experiences in the past with Packard Bell and Fujitsu. Is Acer a better make?

They don't have an especially good name for build quality but price wise they aren't bad. If you are a road warrior then I'd say look elsewhere.

    Not particularly.

Apple and Lenovo make the best laptops.

If I wanted something cheaper, I would probably be looking at Dell.
  • I'd say they were a decent name, similar to Lenovo, but not a big player like HP, Dell, Tosh, Sony etc.

Better than Fujitsu and way better than eMachine, Ei System, Advent and Packard Bell.

    Are you high?

With a current 24.2% market share, Acer is the best-selling brand of computer in the UK.

    The top five are:

    1. Acer - 24.2%
    2. Dell - 18.3%
    3. HP - 17.5%
    4. Toshiba - 6.5%
    5. Apple - 5%

Your "big player" Sony doesn't even make the top five.
  • Acer are absolute tosh. I had one, it was so bad I gave it to the ex wife.
My friend has one, and he's just (quite literally) thrown it in the bin.

Acer are a 'value for money' brand. They're not a premium brand, but that doesn't have to be a problem... unless you are trying to buy a 'premium' laptop. They're cheap, but not really 'cheap and nasty', if that makes sense.

I'm personally a big fan of Apple, but they're certainly not cheap and OSX is a big step for some, so I appreciate they aren't for everyone. Just to give you an idea of what I'm comparing them to.

Iver had a few Acer and their cheaper cousin Emachines laptops and never had a problem with them.

Ther build quality isnt the best but they are also one of the cheaper brands around so thats to be expected.

The componants used inside them are the same as most of the other brands are using, western digital hard drives, branded ram, the latest processors etc etc so the only real difference is the shell.

Ive had alot more problems with a sony viao I bought recently than ive had with the 6 or 7 acers ive had over the years.

  • My last experience with Vaio was about 9 years ago now, but that was awful too.. it put me off the brand for life. My next laptop will either be a Dell Adamo or an Apple somethingorother.
