Some advice plz

Just put on my pc & this message came up:

checking file system , file system NTFS, one of he discs needs to be checked for consistency.

so I left it for ages & nothing happened, so I re-started the pc & the same thing came up again but this time I cancelled it. Can anyone enlighten me on this?

Thanks in advance

    It's helping you.

It's error checking as to make sure you don't end 'up sheeet creek without a paddle'.

    Let it check.

It may be your HDD on the way out, I would back up all important files ASAP.

depending on what it finds, that check can take what seems to be forever.

fire it on before corrie or whatever comes on the box and see where its at after

Don't tell her that, thats complete nonsense.

It may be because she did not shut down properly or has installed something that don't agree with her system files.

Like Quincy said, it could mean the hard drive is giving up (this happens alot more often than people realize!).
On the other hand, it's just as likely that she didn't shut down properly at some point.

    What you wrote is nonsense.

You cannot scare the young lady into beleiving her HD is about to go tits up just because windows wishes to check the 'file system' for consistency.

Please do research before posting, Checking for consitency can in some cases lead to HDD failure its most prudent ta back up as you never know.

Mind you if it does all go wrong and no back up is available we all know who to thank because they thought it was nonsense :p

I know this as fact, I have no need to do research.

You cannot tell someone their HD is about to die just because check disk appeared.
