Well if it is true, it means I was always right to use bogus names and the addresses of my neighbours when I get online quotes. I only finally enter my correct details and registration number when I have found the cheapest quote and decided that is the one for me.

How do you do this, when I ask for a quote I always have to put in my car reg. so they know straight away who I am.

You don't enter a car reg, and they ask for make/model
  • I thought Confused asked for the reg so they could get your exact car?

I have no idea, not having done it for a while, but if push came to shove, I would look on autotrader for the exact same car as mine, take their reg no. put it into DVLA vehicle check to make sure it is the same as mine, then I would use their reg no for some quotes.

The reason I do/did this anonymous quoting is because I don't want junk mail/email I also use fake email addresses. I wasn't doing it because I thought it would bump up the premiums.

This is optional. I often find the quotes from Confused are good to begin with, usually around £250 for my Mondeo 2.0 TDCi and then there are some comedy ones at the end of the list of over £1,000. I'm almost 40, been driving since I was 17 with no claims- fingers crossed!

I'm 35, non fault motorbike claim, no additional excess (only standard) and protected NCB. 2.0 TDCI Mondeo too. Also roundabout £250. TBH I never look any further than the first 4 or 5. However it didnt recognise my reg.

    Why do you think that??

They ask for the car reg so they get the model correct. You may not even own the car, just having seen it in a garage forecourt.

On all comparison sites, just slap the keyboard for name, phone numbers and email addresses, if you don't, you are welcoming in a World of Spam with open arms.

  • Hi all thank you very much for your comments, very interesting to read.

He has gone with the 2nd insurer obviously, they also insure our GSXR 1000 motorbike.

That £1,200 was with the NCB on, when he said - no to the £1,200 i'll find somewhere else, that's when she said about him looking at other cars and that it'd bump his premium right up.

The best thing is, when he called the bike insurer, she spoke to the 3rd party insurer and they had said 'ah yes, we've just had 'so and so' on the phone for that gentleman, but we didn't give them a price of £1,200 it was much lower than that!!'

So once it has all gone through and the car is insured in his name then i'll be phoning up the first company and complaining!!

    Thanks again.
