My PC has a problem.
I turned it on last night & got the black screen with the load in "discover/fix the problem mode" (can't remember what it said) OR load normally.

After a bit of twiddling, I got it going again.

But now when I turn it on I get

Diskette drive 0 seek failure
Press F1 to continue F2 to enter set up

If I press F1, it loads but every time I turn it on, I get the error message again.

Can anyone advise?
Thank you.

Have you got a floppy disc in the floppy disc drive?

I don't think my PC even has a floppy, but no, no disc.

I did twiddle with set up, trying to get back on the first time & I think I have used a wrong setting, but I don't know how to get back to it:o:o:o

You need to press F2 and change Boot sequence.Select to boot from Hardrive
  • It could also be your BIOS battery if your computer is fairly old.

Or your hard drive is on the way out. In any case I would back up anything important to an external source just in case.

If there's no floppy drive in your PC look for an option in the BIOS (the thing you get in to when you press F2) to tell it there isn't one present. I think the error may be caused by it looking for something which isn't there. The fact that it has started doing this suggests a possible problem with the BIOS battery or the BIOS itself.

I think I told it to look for it though:o

Is it as easy as you make it sound?:o:eek:
  • Pretty much. Each BIOS is slightly different, but the general principles are the same.

Look for something related to "boot order", and just follow the instructions to make it boot in the following order:

    1: CD/DVD Drive
    2: Hard Disk
    3: Anything else

That should cure the problem. It appears, from the limited error posted, it's looking for a (non-existent) floppy drive.
