To all you do gooders....
GET OUT OF THE THREAD!!
I don't give a flying toss about your view points, we are capable of making our own choices without you jackbooting through the place acting all high and mighty.
hear hear! i bet those self righteous lot have already stocked up on these chickens...
jeeez give it a rest already - we can't all afford 2 shop the way jamie oliver and his bum chums would like us 2!0 -
Got one of these this morning - meant to go up to 3.5kg but the biggest I could find was 1.842kg, paid £2.56 so still an absolute bargain for Sunday lunch - can't afford a "normal priced" chicken these days let alone organic ones! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

It had quite a happy life until a red tractor came speeding around the corner and run over the poor little !!!!!!.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

As soon as I saw this thread I could have predicted its content and arguments.
I also would love to be able to justify paying £7 or more on a chicken but I cant. As has been said already, I put my family being fed over the life of a chicken.
I appreciate that animals deserve to live at least a half decent life but unfortunately its never going to happen across the board, Mr Infernally Unwittinglystall found that out first hand.
On the flipside I am currently collecting materials surplus to requirements from a large extension going on at work. I am going to build a walk in chicken run and home and re house 5 or 6 ex battery hens in my garden to try and do my bit for chicken welfare that way.0 -

No need to spend so much. You can get a Freedom Food chicken for £4.
What you aren't told with cheap chicken is how much water is injected to increase its weight.0 -
Why is it that everytime we see a bargain Chicken thread the "chicken police" all come out and lecture us on how we should spend our money ?
Why do they never complain about all the other "bargains" where goods are sold from countries which exploit and mistreat their work force?
What is it about Chickens ? Apart from the fact that we have that prat Oliver and his cohort HFW getting all sanctimonious and lecturing us on how we should lead our lives. I'm afraid the welfare of a Chicken pales into insignificance when compared to the way some HUMANS are treated in this world.
Oliver and HFW are millionaires and can afford to be choosy about what they buy and eat . Their choices probably have no affect on their lives whatsoever. Whereas someone on a limited income has to make choices and spending more on one thing i.e. Organic Free Range etc Chicken has a knock on effect and reduces the available income for other things. Oliver and HFW do not have to make this choice and therefore can have no comprehension of what poorer folk have to deal with.
Yes we would all like to be able to afford lovely happy chickens that have been raised in bucolic bliss pecking around in a Darling Buds of May type farmyard....but this ain't gonna happen.0 -

The same type as an organic one, they both end up dead !!
If you are that concerned about the quality of life the chickens had then dont eat meat at all and if you are already a vegetarian then why comment on a cheap meat thread !
Some people are really struggling at the moment and having a fed family is more important than the life of the meat.

People do indeed have the right to make their own choices, to suit their own financial situation, but if a post promoting cheap chickens erroneously flags up the red tractor label as being something it ain't then others should feel free to comment on that.If you look back you will see that it was the labelling issue that clearly prompted davetrousers' post. Some people are really struggling at the moment and having a fed family is more important than the life of the meat.
If *you* are really struggling at the moment, Sarah , you may want to look at laying off the quilted apricot lavvy paper and think about making your own yogurts rather than overpriced commercial ones. How much unnecessary "discount" trash have you bought under bzzz , then promoted the same products to friends and family?0
