using "until the fuel light comes on" is a waste of time when comparing mpg

its like asking two different people to walk until they are tired

fill up, do 100 miles then fill up again, work out your mpg that way

Well i know, but it's about as sure as i can be without actually running out of petrol (twice) to be sure. MOT soon so i won't be filling to the brim til i know it's safe to :o

Roughly 130 miles, driving on LPG in a 1.4 Fiesta. Only costs £20 to fill the tank!
  • About 210 miles/£10 in my Vauxhaul Meriva 1.7 litre Diesel.

Did i mis read that or are you getting 210 miles from a tenners worth of fuel, isnt that 95ish mpg?
  • £20 will do me for 250 miles, so 125 miles for a tenner.

Clearly a mistake somewhere. I get that to be 105mpg at 1.059 pence per litre (which would be a very good price for Diesel I think).

If you look at the second set of figures - 52litres/625 miles is about 54.5 mpg (sounds about right). If you get 210 miles for £10 then you get 52 litres for less than £30 - which isn't right - unless you're using veg oil.

I get anywhere between 35 and 50 miles from a tenner :O Very jealous of some of you!
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

    Well spotted :o
Should be 110 not 210! A slip of the digit, literally.
  • My new C5 is giving me around 125 per tenner - may get a bit better when its better run in

Phew! I was amazed at what you got and wondered why I had bothered to get an LPG car!

I get 165 miles on a tenner, that is town & country driving / not motorway
I don't really know what it goes up to on a motorway journey but must be about 188 miles.

And if you have a car that works it out for you, don't automatically trust it. Verify the figure by monitoring useage a couple of times.
