Well, I can say with ashadegreener, I got a really quick response. This is their latest email. I like the fact that these emails are actually personal, not robotic emails like what paypal and eBay give. This is the latest email from them
    Hello Waqas

We are in receipt of your new application. I will ensure that it is personally dealt with by one of our Senior Surveyors, either Ian Kilby or Willie Walker. Both of them are out most of today, physically surveying properties, so please bear with us. Once they have looked at your property, they will ring you personally to tell you if they think it is suitable or not. If they still don’t think that it is suitable they will explain in detail why not.

I must stress again – being south facing is only ONE of the things we are looking for. You keep stating that your roof is south facing, and I am sure it is but there are many other elements that we have to consider too. Please remember Waqas – we are not charging ANYTHING for these panels, we are being paid for the electricity that they generate and if we fitted our systems on roofs that weren’t suitable, the panels would not operate at their optimum and we would go bust quite quickly and lots of people would lose out. I wish we could fit onto every roof, but we can’t.

Our decision not to fit is not taken lightly. I cannot have them on my own home because my roof is E/W facing and in any event the available space is too small – so I know how frustrating it can be.

Whilst your support of what we are doing is appreciated, we cannot let that colour our final decision, which I truly hope is a ‘YES’, but in the end it will be the Surveyor’s decision and if it is a no, please don’t take it as a personal sleight – unfortunately some people do.

Finally – I am not the owner of A Shade Greener, there are a few shareholders, I am merely one of them.

    Best wishes

    Sarah Dyson

so am I right in saying it's free to have these putting on your roof with no cost and you keep the free electric

I have a south facing roof which isnt shaded by houses/trees as house across road are below my house, its a semi so medium type roof size.

Yes, if you live in/close to Yorkshire. There'll be more companies like these soon I reckon

You are in effect renting out your roof. The 'rent' is being able to use what electricity it generates in during the day.

I am tempted by this always wanted to do my bit and have tried to save money but still have a modern lifestyle as much as possible

I used 16kw a day and they claim you can get 40-60% saving

Looks like these panels are quite big and will fill most of a south facing roof. My OH is worried if we opt for this it will make house look unsightly. I think they a asset myself but am concerned what if roof tiles slip off at a alter stage as my roof does need some tiles.ridge tiles replaced due to wear and tear they not serious yet but need work in foreseeable future

I am wondering, what the tax implications if any are to "renting" out your roof.

Well if you got all the money from the solar panels(the FITs and sales/consumption) it would be tax free.

I suspect this system would also not attract any taxation????

Dont do my area even though I live in Yorkshire

a little misleading there web site but been told they are going to correct that

"Be one of the first 2000 homes in Yorkshire to receive FREE solar panels with all these benefits:"

We currently only install in parts of the Yorkshire area, and parts of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Humberside, unfortunately Scarborough is outside our 1hr travel zone.
  • Anyone any idea on how long this FITS deal lasts? i.e. how long is your contract with them and is there any way out of it? Or has anyone even seen a contract?

I applied and they got back to me in a couple of hours to say my house may be suitable but they need to send a surveyor out to check the roof pitch etc.

I will be interested in having a good read of the contract assuming it gets that far.
