Hi, Can someone tell me if debt built up on credit cards commenced before 1997 can be written off. I have been contacted by a company saying they can do this but I have to pay them £1000 for the priviledge and they say they have had 100% success in writing off most debts before this date.

So they haven't had 100% success in writing off ALL debts then ?
Why don't you suggest to them that as they're so confident of success, then they would surely be happy to operate on a 'no win no fee' basis and see what they say ? I somehow suspect they'd not be that enthusiastic....0 -

Come on people. This is posted everyday.
These companies have one sole purpose. They want to line their own pockets. Stay clear of them.
You can challenge your CCAs yourself and the letter templates are on this site with plenty of advice and opinions.
If you pay upfront for the service, what are you going to do when they fail to get any debts written off and suddenly stop trading ? Please common sense is required here.0 -

In some circumstances it can - but not always.
'100% success' in writing off 'most debts'??? Not exactly consistent is it?
If it is possible in your case you can DIY and save their fee.0 -
Believe me, DO NOT even entertain using the services of these "vultures".
