talktalk - not as easy for me

I am already a talktalk landline and home phone package customer. Want their broadband offer as well. Phone number I am using is an old cable number, but was transferred to BT for about 3 years before I went to talktalk a few months ago. Talktalk braodband sales people say I can't take their BB package. Their customer services are no better informed. I keep getting passed from BT to difrenet desks at Talk talk, but no one makes any progress or knows how to work around the number problem. I can't leave TT and go to BT for 3 months to get a new number as I am undercontract to TT for landline now! Has any one found a workaround???? ta

This has been discussed before somewhere, can't find the thread now. TalkTalk will not accept ex-cable numbers for broadband - there is NO REASON that they can't accept the number, but they choose not to. It is not an issue for BT as they are not preventing it, there is no technical reason why your number cannot be ADSL enabled. It is TalkTalk being hopeless.

Most other broadband providers will accept the number - demonstrated by their ADSL availability checkers - try a few.

I switched from cable to BT a few weeks ago. Within 24 hours most of the availability checkers (they generally all feed into the BT database) confirmed by number could be used for ADSL.

Another reason to avoid TalkTalk? Depends how important your phone number is. The fact you already have TT line rental on your ported number makes the situation all the more daft. I'd keep trying and ask to speak to Mr Dunstone at the top. Worth a try.

    OfCOM, not OfTEL ;)

Yes, OfCOM are the ineffective and useless "regulator" of our phone system
