Reclining Chair Mechanism

I wonder if anyone can help on this problem please.
I have 2 reclining, swivelling armchairs. The base and reclining mechanism are metal and they are reclined by pulling a lever inside the armrest.
Over the years the mechanism has developed quite a bit of play and parts foul each other when operated. Looking at the mechanism it seems that the main cause is the ‘fasteners’ that hold the various struts together are getting worn, indeed two have fallen out.
They are difficult to describe, like a large ‘pop’ rivet that has two diameters – one approx 8mm and the other 5mm and 13mm long. The only apparent way of securing them is like a pop rivet.
I have replaced the ones that have fallen out with a bolt, but as the holes in the two pieces of metal are different diameter, there is still play in the joint.
There is no manufacturer’s name on the mechanism, only a sticker to say made in the USA.
Anyway, my question! Does anyone have any knowledge of these mechanisms, manufacturer, spares, repair techniques etc?
Thanks.
P.S. I had posted this in 'Techie Stuff' but that seems to be all elelectronic subjects.

I’m struggling to visualise what you’re describing but one thought might be to drill the small hole out to the same size as the larger one and then use a bolt

Depending on the size and room around the holes...would a countersunk head screw work better than a bolt ? Like this ?
So the hole would locate on the angled head and reduce play ?

This is an image. The larger diameter is worn and appears as if it is countersunk
