Avoiding fake Nokia batteries
Does anyone know of a way to get genuine Nokia batteries at a reasonable price without the risk of being sold a fake one?
I was after a second BL-4CT battery for my phone, so I bought a supposedly "compatible" one from a seller on Ebay and it didn't fit (the pins were in slightly the wrong place), though they refunded without a fuss.
I've looked at the sellers selling "genuine" ones on Ebay, but all of them have feedback that suggests that they have been selling fakes. I've sent messages to a few asking them to confirm that their battery will pass Nokia's "genuine hologram" test (essentially you have to be able to see the four marks all around the edge of the coin) and not one replied!
Any recommendations for reliable (and cheap) sources would be much appreciated.

Thanks, but obviously not genuine Nokia, so no guarantee it will fit and no guarantee that it has anywhere near the capacity of a genuine battery.
Anyone else have any good experiences, or are am I just going to have to accept being ripped off by fake battery sellers?0 -

On ebay there are sellers who trade in batteries taken from phone returns. The batteries should be almost new. That is one way to get a genuine nokia at a cheaper price. I have done it and so far, touch wood. it seems to be fine.
Another way if the deal is still going. Buy a nokia 1661 from e2save for just under a tenner then you have to top up by minimum of another ten so costs you just under twenty. Go through a cashback site and you should get 7.50 back therefore costing you about 12.50.
For this you get your nokia battery, a spare charger plus a spare phone which you can use to charge your battery while you are using your regular phone. Cant be bad.
And you have ten pounds payg credit.:T
I think this is the battery you want but do check.
Looks as if it has changed slightly so maybe use CPW but you get 5 back instead of 7.50.0 -

I guess you've been lucky - from what I can see there are lots of sellers ~claiming~ this on Ebay, but most seem to be using this as a front to sell Chinese made fakes, where they put more effort into copying the hologram (badly) than into using cells with half-decent capacity.
Guyver - thanks for the link, but when you add the cheapest shipping that is £33 for a battery. That's nearly as much as the phone - including original battery - cost!
I like the idea of getting another cheap phone with the same battery, but I'd feel a bit of an environmental terrorist in doing it - a bit like throwing away an inkjet printer every time the cartridges run out, even though that is often cheaper than buying original cartridges... The 1661 also has a slightly different battery (a BL-4C without the T).
Perhaps I'll try another brand of "compatible"...0 -
