Micra - a two pronged question

I bought a Nissan Micra 03 reg back in April (I had to buy another car as my car was written off). The EMS light came on about 6 weeks ago and no specific code came up on the diagnostix. I took the car to Nissan who diagnosed a stretched timing chain (yes the ol' Micra problem) and it would cost around £1000 to fix it.

I took it to two independent garages who both said that it wasn't the chain because there is absolutely no noise coming from the area and honestly, the engine is as quiet as a lamb esp when idle. The second garage diagnosed a faulty cam shaft sensor and it has been replaced. I am now going to trade in the car. My worry now is, a) if the light comes back on between now and my new replacement car - what do I tell the car dealer? second, my worse nightmare is the day after I trade it in the timing chain really does break, would the car dealer have an issue with me over it. I want to be as honest as I can but I really don't want to fork out £1000 on a repair that may not be broke as you can't see the timing chain without taking the engine out.

Thanks

  • Tell the dealer nothing let them find any problems. My bet is they won't even drive it and put it straight into auction.
Are you trading the car with a warranty?
No, so if it breaks on the dealer tough $h1t.

  • Thanks for the advice Chippy. Yes, there was a warranty of 1 year when I bought the car but the timing chain isn't covered!!

... and I don't want to see another Micra;)
  • Sorry I mean't your not offering the dealer any warranty. So no obligation to fix any problems once you trade the car.

Your worst nightmare is the day before you trade it in the timing chain really does break.

Once you've traded it in, its not your problem; it'll be the dealers.

    Caveat emptor!
