Estate agent doesn't remove 'Sold' sign

Hi,

We completed early October, moved in and I have asked EA several times to remove 'Sold' sign from our front yard since then. No response though. Can I just bin the thing or does the EA have some rights as to how long a sold sign can remain on sold properties?

Thanks

I'd take it down and put it in the back garden for a month - let them know that is what you have done.

Any agreement would be with the seller, so no, they don't have any rights, but of course the sign belongs to them. Useful for an April 1st prank on a well settled family member, perhaps, though?

Ring trading standards and tell them the EA is being very slow removing signs. There are rules about them and they can get a kick in the pants for leaving them up deliberately long.

My wife took hers down and kept it in front garden for several months, eventually an old woman stole it! Take it down, inform agent and tell them you'll be dumping it at the end of the week if they haven't collected it. They won't be banging on your door demanding it back, that's for sure.
I'm proud of my advice, if others want to look I say enjoy the show!

These are often put up and taken down by external contractors, not the EAs themselves. Often they don't bother taking them down. I called our EA and told them that I would be taking it to the dump if they didn't come to collect it in a week. They did, but if they hadn't I would have taken it.

I think this happens fairly often tbh - happened to us too - after 2 phonecalls and on the third said I'd bin it, they collected!

It's the property of either the agent or their contractor, so you're on shaky ground if you bin it straight away. If the sign is still vertical, then as long as you don't damage it, there's nothing to stop you taking it out of the ground and leaving it lying horizontal.

Write, phone, e-mail them frequently. Keep records of when you do this, and copies of correspondence. If no response after, say, a month or so, I'd say you've taken reasonable steps to get them to uplift it, and you can reasonably take it to the dump.

2 people I knew (little !!!!!!) stole out for sale sign when I was a teen, and stuck it in the field of the local youth club.

You should have seen me trying to get it back home again on a mad windy and rainy day before my Mum and Dad found out!!

I'd ring the EA and ask them to come and move it.
