Haggling on Price New Skoda Fabia Scout

Hi,hope you can help. I have a company car a Skoda Fabia 1.9 tdi. Its brilliant but its due for replacement. My company always tell me to sort it out myself and they pay the bill but i want to get the best deal.

I went in and the man offered me 2k for my car (54 plate, 115k miles, quite scratched) and said the OTR price of a Fabia Scout was £14540. I always have aircon and the price for that and parking sensors is £500 making it £15040 less 2k £13040. Now I got an email from the garage saying if I ordered it by end Nov they would give me 15% discount which brings it down again to £11084

Is that a good deal? Or should I ask for the aircon and parking sensors off too?

Without doing too much research you must ask yourself what will the price be in December (big push to make annual sales quotas) so you may get it cheaper still.

Do some research with online brokers and see how you get on there too.

If I may ask what is in it for you jumping through all the hoops? I presume you are with a small company and are just trying to do your bit to keep costs down?

I tend to find anytime after mid October can be a good time to buy- they've had the plate change bounce and November can be even quieter than December as people come in looking for the end of year deals. I suspect dealers will not be as desperate with deals this year in Dec as people will make purchases then to avoid 2.1% price hike in VAT? Just a thought.

It can work in your favour buying in Nov or against it- best way for me is to check out a few prices on this car with options and if other deals can't beat it this month, chances are next month it should still be a decent enough deal. Unfortunatly nobody has a crystal ball to check these things- we've all heard the buy it today 'special price' that is available tommorrow as well, but if you can't find it cheaper and are happy enough....
  • I take it this is the estate version? I don't think they are in that high demand, so I'd be looking for a sweeter deal than that. The 15% off is the VAT free offer they are doing on most models so thats the minimum discount.

Go for £10,500 as the cost to change. If they don't bite, try another dealer.
  • Thanks for your replies

What's in it for me, well I work for a charity and am always conscious of the pennies. Wouldnt be a very good member of staff if I didnt try my best to get it cheapest.

Marmite yes it is the estate version - i carry lots of stuff and do lots of miles, and it looks quite strong and chunky which I liked. But you say the 15% discount is the standard offer at the moment? Cheeky B making me think he's offering a great deal. I've just looked and it says all fabias are vat free till end January 2010. Thanks for this, I'd never have known!

My mate just bought a brand new octavia scout cheaper than a second hand one.

Sounds like Skoda are willing to deal.

Skoda have a fleet team and fleet offers as well. Should be on their website.

Might be worth speaking to a fleet specialist.
The terms on offer for retailers to play with vary and these guys get a few percent more.

I wouldnt be amazed if the retailer was pushing you through as retail in order to bump their numbers.

Nationwide delivery is included in the price with the dealers so would shop around. If you want a reccomendation or two msg me and will point you in the right directions.

Second thing is do you company receive any manufacturers support. Depending on size or volume there could be some on the table.

The Fabia Scout is a fairly new model (only came out a few months ago) but suspect discounts are in line with Fabia across the board.

With the money your spending I would look at Octavia but appreciate thats personal choice.
  • Why do you not trade a complete dog to get the scrappage bonus and sell your Fabia privately?

I would guess that's because the company don't have any ten years old cars?

  • Thanks for this, re fleet we only have 4 people with company cars and Im the only one with a skoda - can fleet do one single vehicle or is it for higher volume of vehicles?

And we dont have any old cars and I dont have a private one either.

Now another thing - the guy in the showroom said they were changing their website so the email he sent me would be from his personal hotmail account, and it was. Is that dodgy?

Sending business emails from a hotmail account is very un-proffesional, And i guess from the dealers perspective if the salesman made you an offer via hotmail they could just say, sorry wasn't us etc. As with any offer you're always better getting it in black and white.
