My menu programmes, documents, turn off etc has always been bottom left of the screen.
By fiddling around i have managed to move it up to the top right weird. So my start is at the top right. I guess i have to change it in tools or something. Can someone tell me what to do to return it to its normal place please?

The instructions you were given are correct.
If you can't get them to work then the only answer is to turn your monitor through 90 degrees which will at least put it at the bottom.0 -

Are all of your icons upside down or is the task/start bar just at the top of the machine ?
Click on the start bar and drag it back to the bottom of the screen, the bar will not follow the mouse, so just click the bar drag the mouse right to the bottom and let go
