    Unfortunately a motor can also act as a generator. And it can also kill the motor. What you're supposed to do if using a hoover is wedge something in the fan so it can't spin. The fans do not like spinning at the speed they can get to when you use a hoover.

    A 3 year old fan is going to be getting a bit tired and your boyfriend could have killed it.
