What influences you to purchase a property?

If you were buying a house in the countryside, would you purchase a bungalow, a bungalow with a loft conversion, a storey and a half or a 2 storey if they all were the same size and all had the same rooms?

Would you prefer a corner bath or an ordinary bath? What colour would you prefer the bathroom suite to be?

What would influence you to purchase a property and what would discourage you?

Are you looking at various features for your own property purchase or is this research. I live close to the country but in a town. (although not in my ideal property iw ould love to live as many miles from civilisation as practicably possible since I'm very antisocial).

I would go for a bungalow with an ordinary bath and I'd want a white or ivory bathroom suite with gold taps. yes the little touches really do make a difference,

The thing that would make to decision for me though is gardens. neat tidey gardens and fantastic views. The thing that would discourage me (which I know from where I live now) is that although its lovely to live in the country, you can get snowed in quite easily especially if you are high up/live on country lanes like we did in our last house in a village called foulridge. Accessability in the colder months is a huge consideration.

Firstly, bungalows with loft conversions are not bungalows. They're houses with little loft space and a low roof.

I prefer bungalows. I think it's the feeling of space. Our current home is a bungalow. The gardens were awful but, a couple of years and £10k later, they look much nicer! 10k! - I didn't spend that on the kitchen!

Bathroom suites are white. Corner baths are usually too small and designed for triangular people ;)

A quiet location on the edge of town - preferably a cul-de-sac.

    :)

I'd love a 1960's/70's bungalow. I'd render it white, have big windows and a huge palm tree on front of it and convert the loft myself.

I HATE corner baths enough for capital letters and a bathroom suite has to be white. But the bungalow I'd buy would still be on one level and probably have a green corner bath as I wouldn't want to pay a premium...

I'm not sure that my ideas would suit everyone though!

What about a house that is built with the intention of the loft being converted and has a ridge height of 6.5m?

You make most money from a house by utilising all the space. A property in the countryside is less likely to be 'overdeveloped' and therefore your best option is to use all the space that you are given, whether your intention is to live in or move on, surely?

    Am I missing something?

I agree with you regarding using space. The part you might be missing is the financial side of it.

Are you trying to sell your own home? I was assuming by your questions comments on different build types and a bungalow built with the intention of being able to covert the loft, that your plan was to build a house.

If you give us some more specifics, I'd certainly be able to give a more professional opinion, not based on any assumptions :)

Yes we are going to be building our own house but there is ground next door to ours for sale, which has outline planning permission and there is a builder trying to buy it to build a house to sell on. We were thinking that if we ended up with neighbours that we could not live with that we might have to sell our house, although obviously we are hoping this will not be he case. Therefore we were wondering what would sell best!?! Hope that gives you a clearer picture.
