Advice on replacement boiler/c heating

It looks like we may have to replace boiler/central heating if parts aren't available for the boiler we have now, Servowarm (installed late '87 when 2 rads replaced and also shower added
I am so confused
currently wall mounted boiler in kitchen, hot water tank, 7 radiators
Loft insulation is being replaced and walls insulated in next few weeks.
Would a combi boiler be more suitable? I have asked around family and friends but they aren't a lot of help as they seem to have 'old' boilers too!
We haven't starting getting quotes yet, but want to try to look at least a little savvy and ask the right questions:D
I have been reading most of the posts which has confused me more, and the whole thing is giving me a headache, and thats before I even see a quote  and have to work out how to pay for it!
