Questions for a double-glazing salesman??

I have got two companies coming round to quote for replacing all the windows in my house, probably with UPVC.
Could someone suggest what questions I should ask as I am not very good with salesmen?
Thanks

Yes..what product and profile do they use?
Do they own/operate their own fabrication plant?
Do they employ their own fitters or do they subcontract?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
Do you live in a listed house/conservation area? Are there any planning restrictions on your property?
If yes, then you need to find out who is going to deal with paper work and consents.
If no - ignore me!0 -
How long have they been trading ,recommendations either letters or houses in area ,pictures of installations, which profile they use ,just because somebody makes there own doesnt mean this is better there are super factories these days which produce products far better than a small company making there own.best price without the bull!0

I would also get a quote from a local joiner who comes recommended. He will probably source from one of the factories lancashirelad talks about. We did this last time we needed windows and we paid approx £100 per window unit, and the joiner his time. It worked out very cost effective, very easy, and we dealt with a bloke that we knew and trusted.0

tell em they have one chance.

You shouldn't talk to them alne if you aren't very good with salesmen really...they will spot that.
They are there to sell, make money and that's about it. You will be sitting there with £££ above your head to them
Have a mate to play devil's advocate and stop you being bullied....and maybe provide an excuse to chuck them out if you feel the need.
I'd ask for local customers to have a look at, ask about what happens should there be a problem and guarantees.

Who are the DG companies? Local, or one of the 'Nationals'?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Two local companies are coming round - ASK Windows in Mill Hill and Imperial Windows (Harrow).
One has been recommended, the other has a showroom locally. Our house is a bog standard 1930s semi with very draughty Crittal windows.
C_Mababejive: What product and profile should I be looking for? (Sorry, I don't understand the question but I am sure the answer would be relevant.)
Thanks to everyone who replied0 -
The profile is basically the plastic that the windows are made of. They are all pretty much the same, there is a differance in whites as some are lighter/darker/creamier. It can make a differance when the windows are trimmed off as these must be the same shade. Also door panels must be the same shade.
It would be nice if they made them and didnt order them in.
You want 28mm k glass, reinforcment in any door panel. Fire escape and easy clean hinges. And defo FENSA.
Also if haveing more than 1 door then ask for keyed a like barrels.0 -
The profile is basically the type of plastic frame used.
I used to design equipment for a uPVC profile bending company. This comapny used to think Rehau and Kommerling were good makes of profile to use.0
