  • What happens when you give your kid a tin of sweets and they get their finger stuck in the lid putting it back on? or when they bit eoff barbies head and then start to choke on it because they thought it was ok to eat?

Or what about if you inadvertently close the car door witout realising that your own childs hands are still playing with the door edge?

Does anyone take responsibility for themselves anymore? We know the amercicans dont but i thought brits were a bit more clued-up then them..

things have hinges - Id advise you to keep your kids away from them, that way the situation will never arise will it?

I get the impression that a number of people in the UK see this as a possible cash cow.

Rather than accept responsibility, they think that by frivolously blaming a corporation for a problem that only exists in areas lacking common sense, they can "earn" a few quid from it.

  • On my 3rd child. None have lost fingers in the McClaren folding mechanism.

I heard on the news it was the American ones.

Exactly. Ive noticed over the last few years that theres a greater sense of moral outrage if theres gonna be money involved.

    strange that eh;)

  • Isn't the lack of action in the UK to match that of the USA something to do with 'looser' EU regulations? Leading to the pushchair being considered a risk for American kids but not for ours.

Having said that, an American woman with a Maclaren was shown saying "my child doesn't have his fingers near the mechanism when I collapse the pushchair". Spot on, assemble and collapse it PROPERLY and all digits will remain intact - whichever country you're in!

I think its because the British aren't stupid enough to let their children collapse the buggy for them, whereas in America, its quite the norm to collapse a buggy whilst your children are in it.

The injuries have apparently happened when the pushchairs are being unfolded, not collapsed.

The amputations happened when children placed their finger in the hinge while the pushchair, or stroller, was being unfolded.
And that's a normal thing to do??

even more reason to make sure thier finger is nowhere near the hinge.
