  • Hi Doozergirl,

I remember you got a gas hob, have you got the glass splashback behind that and is screwed or self adhesive?

Just had a self adhesive one delivered from B&Q (capuccino)but have now read a few reviews saying it's not toughened glass and some have had theirs crack!

So just wondering if it's going behind gas hob, is it a specific type of jus toughened?????

Suzy I've got the same one as Magoogy links to. Down to 14.99 now I see, what a bargain! Yes it has circles which I didn't like when I bought it but tbh I don't even look at it now LOL. Anyway I thought I would replace it later if I really wanted to (you can do that easily when it's only screwed to the wall, harder if stuck!)

I was in Topps Tiles yesterday and noticed they have a whole range of glass splashbacks now - ones that go behind the hob but also ones that cover the whole wall as well.

I have too many houses! I have the gas hob in my house and a glass mosaic splashback. I'm a property developer so in our barn that we just sold I had the sheet splashback made to measure on the entire wall. I have a flat too which I have put it in; it is not self adhesive it is from a glazier, 4mm tempered glass and you can apply it with silicone or grab adhesive and then seal the edges.

I would be really surprised if the B&Q glass were not tempered. If it isn't I'd be pretty peeved at that price!

just come across this thread and was wondering if anyone knew of a glazier in Birmingham who could make made to measure glass splashbacks. I've got a 2 x 3m runs.
For those of you who have had long runs made, and not the area between extractor and hob, how do you accomodate power sockets and switches? Can they be cut out from the glass, or is there another way?

    Hi,
I've just ordered a splashback for my kitchen and there is this company in Coventry that might be able to help you http://www.kitchenlux.co.uk/kitchenlux-splashbacks.htm. I didn't go with them as I wanted an unusual shape and so I used the glazier my builder knows but they have their prices on the website (which I've never seen before) and they price per 0.5m. As i said, I didn't use them so can't comment on their quality but they are relatively local to you.
    Cheers
    Ayesha

Kidderminster Mirror & glass do mine. And they're about 25% cheaper than the website above.

Here's a pic of the splashback in our barn :)

I can't remember how much it cost but wasn't a cheap option (tiles would be). I'm sure it has to be heat resistant and even if you don't want a bright colour you will need a white background coating to the glass. I found my company on the web and they fitted it.

    thanks .

how about the electrical sockets and switches? can they be cut out of the glass or do they need to be moved from the wall?

You can have cuts put in for sockets. My link was broken but if you open it and click to the next photo, you can see the two sockets.

Your run of 3m will be split into two runs of 1.5m but you don't notice them and to be honest it helps as if your walls are not truly straight, you'll be in trouble over a 3m run. I'd be tempted to reduce it to 3x 1m runs.

Seriously, Kidderminster glass were very good and were cheaper than any internet company I could find that specialised in glass splashbacks. If there is anything that needs adjusting you can just take them back to be resized.

As far as cost is concerned, if you have to employ a tiler to fit the tiles then it actually works very favourably to have glass splashbacks because you save on labour. If I can fit one, anyone can :)

great looking kitchen. that's just the kind of look we're going for (white with a light-ish aqua splashback) here's a few quick questions -

where's the kitchen from? (looks like a howdens, white or cream?)

Is that black granite? who did you use?

did you measure for the splashback or did they make a template? (I guess it can be tricky to measure for sockets + taking into acount the number of pieces of glass)
