I've never seen one, but I do know somebody who makes them. She emailed me photos of hers and I had no idea what they were.

Stuff to go behind the hob instead of tiles. :)

    Hi

Proper glass splashbacks for kitchens can be toughened or not depending on whether a gas hob is used. You can't have clear glass splashbacks as you would be able to see every imperfection in the wall behind so they are all lacquered on the reverse then covered in foil so it doesn't matter what is on the wall behind. I would also say it is far better to stick it to the wall than have holes in it for screws. One of the reasons for having glass is the ease of cleaning it so why would you want screws in the suface to make it harder?

I have seen clear glass splashbacks supplied with 4 flush screws so cleaning wouldn't be that much more difficult.

I don't really want anything to hide the wall (I've spend enough time sanding and filling it!!) and the kitchen is so small I need as much open/white space as possible :)

    Hi again,

Its up to you but as I say proper glass splashback companies wil stick glass splashbacks not screw. Also if you have white walls then have white glass, beleive me it will look a million times better than clear! I bet if you use clear glass behind the hob and screw it on the wall you will get all sorts of dust and moisture going behind it that you won't be able to get to with out removing it.

    Good luck

You couldn't be more right. You'll get dead moths congregating in there, and grease!

I agree that white glass as well will be far more streamlined than looking at the wall behind, even without the moths! (You know what I mean when they get inside picture frames and really random places that you wonder how they even got in there)

Right, the picture of dead moths have definitely swayed me towards adhesive!

Just need to decide on the colour now. The local glass shop only need 3-5 working days so might put some units up and then decide.

    Thanks doozergirl and ckdesigner :)

Is the glass shop supplying coloured glass with the foil on the back?
If not you'll see the blobs of silicone through the glass, and it will look a mess.
(That's why clear glass is screwed on)
Pans on an induction hob will get to the temperature of whatever is in them, but the glass splashback should be tempered anyway as normal glass will break very easily if you catch it with a pan, tempered glass won't. You can even break normal glass if you get over-zealous cleaning it, if it's thin enough. Normal glass can chip, not ideal in a food area if you don't see where it goes, tempered glass won't, it shatters entirely if it's damaged. (But at least you know there is glass about)

Hi havent got one but think they look lovely..out of interest we have some glass tiles i am going to put in our toilet and our bathroom, the are diff shades of blues and the colour is done from them being painted on the reverse of them..could you do this with the glass by any chance to match the scheme of the room?

Eeek I have a glass splashback, have had it for 9 months now. I was advised by everyone I encountered to get a screw-on one. I heard stick-on ones will still get water ingress, leaving condensation (... mould!) So I've got a screw-in one, as it will be very easy to remove and clean in future - no silicon or anything to get messy with.

I was in a hurry in the end, and got a 600mm square glass one from Argos £20 (yes I know, but as I said I couldn't wait for lead times - baby was on her way in a couple of days!) I found afterwards that Topps Tiles do large tiles for this purpose, they're 30cm by 60cm high from memory, so you can put 2 or 3 side by side for the width you need. Think they were about £25 each, but can't quite remember exactly. hth

ooooo....that's a good idea. Ours is a pre-produced worktop so we should have a bit spare as they come in longer pieces than we need...

When is yours being fitted? I'd like to see a pic if possible. Otherwise I just like thngs plain (very minimal as I have no sense of colour!)

It shall be fitted in 2 weeks time. I will post you a picture when it is done.

It's spooky you know, I just noticed in another thread that you are having bamboo flooring!

We have laid bamboo flooring in our front room, and we both are having star galaxy worktop and induction hob! We share very similar taste LOL
