Computer randomly turns off

Hi there wondering if anyone can help, My laptop just seems to turn itself off at random. It does seem to turn off more frequently if I'm trying anything that takes up alot of CPU power, ie: gaming. I've been trying to burn a DVD all day and the computer always turns itself off before it completes. Any ideas? I think I'm virus free.

sounds like overheating issues....can of compressed air and clean the dust out of all the cooling vents and fan. Also, use it on a level hard surface, cushions on your knee or duvets or carpets are not good places for lappys especially.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Overheating mate! When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0

Keep doing it and you won't have a problem...not with it shutting down anyway...it will ot start at all, careful until it's fixed.

Probably overheating issue, maybe internal fan has given up the ghost, but can you post a hijackthis log, just so we can rule out malware0

Is it an ACER by any chance? They have a habit of getting overheated and switching off to cool down.
It is good advice to put PCs on a flat, hard surface and to ensure that air can circulate.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

I don't know how to check the temperature, I will try the air and cleaning process and move it to a table. I hope the fan hasn't given up the laptop is only about 15 months old.0

Her in doors has an Acer laptop, no problems with switching off, they do get very hot, if you put your hand to the side you will feel the hot air blowing out, if its not blowing out, the fan could be your problem. Good luck, don't forget to backup important files (if you can).Look after the Pennies and the Pounds will take care of themselves. :beer:0

Its a Samsung, hot air is blowing out but I can feel how hot it is becoming, just trying out the speedfan program now, what kind of temperatures should I be looking for?
If the program is running correctly it is showing 70c is this ok?0 -
Sorry to DP but when I was making the processor work hard (around 80%) it was getting as high as 85c. I have now blown through the vents and moved it to a nice solid table and its sitting around 75c and hasn't turned off yet as I rip something to DVD. Thanks for your advise and I hope I don't have to trouble you again.0
