Just to clarify. You said your OH was called into the office shortly after the announcement - is this hours or days?

When he challenged the scoring, did they state that the additional information would not make a difference at the same meeting or after a break to check for a few hours or days?

The company appear to be trying to follow the guidelines in meeting with affected staff but it looks like window dressing.

They started calling staff in straight after the announcement - they started with office staff and worked their way around the departments. OH was called in about 2 hours after announcement made.

They told him at the same meeting, OH said that they'd missed off that he had been a driver for them as well as a sawyer and that he had a fork lift licence and other qualifications that had not been included on his score sheet. He asked them straight out if this would have made any difference to him being selected and they said no.
  • This clearly demonstrates that the decision was made before the announcement of redundancy as I assume the other person was not sent home or put at risk.

There appears to be case for unfair selection, not allowing for election of representatives and lip service to a fair process.

Also they seem to be running his notice along with consultation, a big no no although they are likely to try and get away with saying no redundancies were made until after consultation. I think the only thing he can do at the moment is wait until the 23rd, see exactly what is said - make sure he writes down everything he remembers from the meetings so far and also the one on 23rd.

will tell him to write it all down. Thanks Jazzyman. You're right to assume the other sawyer was not sent home or received a selection letter.

We're not sure whether they're running his notice with his consultation, we'll find that out on the 23rd I suppose. All they said was that they were sending them all home on gardening leave while the consultation was in process.

All he can do for now is wait until 23rd and see what's said then and start the search for a new job.

    Thanks for everyone's advice xx

    Me again!!

so it's now official. OH redundant as of today. Went in to work for final 'meeting' :rotfl:. Gave him a cheque for 2 weeks redundancy pay plus 2 weeks PILON and he will receive a BACS payment next week for his wages from 1st November to 23rd November and the 6.3 days holiday pay he had outstanding. So at least they've got his money right!

He's filled in the JSA form online so now has to wait for them to get in touch about his claim. Is there anything else we can claim for? Should I be asking this in another area of the forum? I earn £15000 per year, no kids (2 cats though lol), we have a mortgage and pay full council tax.
