    Alexander? Alex.... Philip?

Normal, translates well, your kid will be able to spell it, their teacher can spell it, they won't waste years on the phone to asian call centres shouting letters... no extreme prejudices associated, mainstream, your kid won't cry because you can't buy the tat pencil case from woolworth's like shops with their name on...
If it's on X-factor/world's chaviest camera cops - avoid....
Philip = lover of horses. Has the advantages outlined above, plus an easy abbreviation if they want to use it.

One of our DSs went through his entire primary school career without ever having another in the school. Wasn't common at secondary school either. And yet it's not at all way out or weird. We managed a similar thing with his brothers too.

I like Christos. Lovely name by itself, but also very mainstream in the short version of Chris.
  • Had one of those at school - nickname "dim".....

Oh no! How could I miss that? The Dimitri I know is the son of two Cambridge graduates, so I bet that thought never crossed their mind.;)
  • A Greek that we met some years ago told us that Greek babies are named after whichever Saint's day they are born on. You could check which Saint's day it is when the baby is born and see if you like it! If you do not have calendar with this information on I'm sure you can 'Google' it.

We've just returned from 2 years in the greek part of Cyprus. With a husband called George and a son called Chris and with having dark hair everyone thought I was local. It was my youngest with blonde hair - Ben - who looked english who ended up speaking Greek as he went to local nursery. He was the only one who could!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
  • Is Leo a greek name then?
I don't remember seeing that - I thought it mean't brave warrior in my baby book! :D

I have a colleague who is Greek and called Alexes - but he hates it and calls himself Alex

According to Baby Centre it is!

From what I can remember from being a child the Greek kids had two special days a year - their birthday and their saint's day - not necessarily the same day. I thought it was tradition for the eldest son of the family to be called after his father's father, but I could have remembered this wrong.

Oooo - I've remembered two more

    Yorgos
    Marinos
