Oh my god, I'm having a nightmare.
I seem to have had credit card fraud (or attempted fraudulent transactions) on 4 of my 5 credit cards all on the same day.

My Eggmoney card (everyday card), my Santander Zero card (for holidays, which I've never even used yet!), my Barclaycard (an old credit card i don't use anymore) and my Amazon card (which I applied for for the free voucher but haven't even received yet).

I think it must be via a computer virus as I access all of these online. I've downloaded 3 different viruscheckers and only one found a virus (a trojan) which could be the cause.

I've been spending ages on the phone to each company and the fraudulent transactions have been virtually up to the limit (~£6000) on each account!!!

I feel violated, and stressed that I'm having to do all my Xmas shopping on my debit card and missing out on cashback until my new credit cards arrive.

I use Egg manager for where most of my cards are listed. A little while ago I had a telephone call from Egg to advise when I last checked my money manager there was a trojan attached. They closed the money manager account down and had to use new id and password. Thankfully nothing was taken from accounts but it may be an idea with you do the same and set up an Egg money manager account.

It's good enough at what it does. It doesn't do as much as some of the alternatives.

  • If you have never used the card how could they have got your details from your computer?

It's not better or worse -it's different. It is very good as are the others mentioned but it has a lot of investment from Microsoft and works incredibly well with their product ie Windows.

AVG slows most systems and AVAST has fewer fans but it's still good. Don't use more than one on the same machine.

Any of these free products are more than enough but if you are not a responsible PC user, use stupid passwords, are loose with your data or allow yourself or others to install all sorts of crap on your machines/s -it will never be enough. If you let a nasty program in your machine it will do what it does best. Program.

Make sure your browser is right up to date too. Lots of strange stuff can get by out of date browsers.
  • Thanks Jemma

No i'm quite a sensible user of my PC and i'm the only one who uses it

The reason i asked is that my friends rave on about Avast and i installed it and run a scan and all was fine.

But on start up it is slowing my PC down so much its painful
Keeps doing database updates (fair enough) but i cannot do anything whilst its doing these and all i get is the silly spinning blue ball.

Also find the interface not very user freindly.

Whereas that link above actually shows easy tutorial videos of how to use the Microsoft software.

    I'll think i'll give it a try.
