DLA and Housing Benefit

I am in receipt of the lower mobility rate of DLA. Does this affect my HB in any way? The first person I spoke to said I would no longer be subject to the "under 25 rule" for HB. The next 2 people I spoke to said DLA only affects my HB if I am in receipt of the care component?

Who, if any, is right?

Do you get full Housing Benefit? Are you on a income based benefit like Income Support or Jobseekers Allowance (inc.based)?

I am on short-term higher rate of IB. I was also getting IS until 26th May. I will be able to claim IS again from 17th June when I turn 25.

Out of interest, (don't say if you don't want!), why is there a gap?

Best to check the Housing Benefit question with CAB or other Welfare Benefits adviser... it they were who you asked, ask again and tell them you've had different responses can they tell you which is right. The rules can be complicated, hope you get an answer.

As I am under 25, the rate for IS is £45.50. When I was awarded DLA, the IS premium brought it up to £70. On 26 May, my IB rate changed from the lower rate to the higher rate of £70.05. This placed me 5p about the Income Support threshold.

When I turn 25 on 17th June, the rate for IS will be £57.45 plus the disability premium making an allowance of £81.95. This will be higher than the IB rate of £70.05 resulting in an award of £11.90 of Income Support.

    ...BREATHE...

Why they can't make it any simpler I do not know.

The criteria for the Disability Premiums which enhance your entitlement to IS or HB are set out here at Disability Alliance

Unfortunately you need at least DLA medium Care rate to get
    Severe Disability Premium

You or your partner must satisfy all of the following:
be receiving the care component of Disability Living Allowance (middle or higher rate) or Attendance Allowance

and high rate for Enhanced Disability Premium

    You must:
My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

I know I am only in receipt of the Disability Premium for purposes of IS but does this affect HB at all? According to THIS the single disability premium for HB is £24.50. What I need to know is what component/rate of DLA triggers this?

Any DLA rate triggers the basic Disability premium see Disability Alliance
Housing Benefit is worked out in a similar way to Income Support but allows people who have a low income which is above Income Support levels.

OK. Thanks for that. The person who told me I would not receive it works for the government body that pays HB in northern ireland.
