Is Anyone Getting a Cheaper Car Insurance Quote This Year?

Another claim free year, our circumstances haven’t changed, yet the cheapest renewal quote we can find is almost 25% more than we paid last year!
We’ve tried the comparison sites, a number of individual companies, factored in any cash back and it turns out our current insurer (L&V) come out cheapest or should I say “least expensive” again.
Have we just been unlucky? Is anybody getting a cheaper quote this year?

Same here. I think it is simply because of the massive publicity by Confused.com, go compare & moneysupermarket.com. Nowadays everybody is comparing & most insurers seem to have level up their prices..There is no much point comparing these days. This apply to Home insurance as well.0 -
My renewal for car insurance is roughly the same as last year (just a few pounds cheaper) with no changes to circumstances. Perhaps you got a really good deal last year and I did not??!!0

for many years now I've tended to have a renewal quote higher than the previous year from the existing insurer which is why I always change insurance every year and have always easily beaten the renewal quote. This year has however has been a bit of a struggle and the best I could do(using cashback) is to keep my insurance at only a few pounds higher than last year.Awaiting a new sig0

My experience has been slightly better...Last year my car insurance was abt 800. This year the cheapest i have been able to find is aout £670 with same insurer (admiral) using comparision sites. i havent yet had a renewal quote in writiing from them.
so may be i can bring the price further down to about 600 with first direct as they offer to beat existing renewal quote (proof required) by 10%...0 -
Seriously i was charged a weighted figure because of this accident which had been settled by the other parties insurer.
IS THIS INDUSTRY PRACTISE !!!!
Why should i be penalised for this, tell me your experience of this issue. The FSA state that it is up to the ins company what they base their policy charges on !!
Well watch out because im going out to claim that back from the 3rd party insurer to cover the next 5 years. Enough of this take from the middle class fools as they can take it.
We need to lobby to expose companies doing this practice of punishing accident free drivers with 3rd party accidents.
The insurer concerned is owned by Alliance & Leicester.:mad:0 -

The netiquette on this site is to start another thread if you want to mention a completely new topic otherwise people will not respond to your post.
Anyway if you search this board you will find that this is common. Regardless of whether an accident is your fault or not your insurance premium will rise as statistically now you are at greater risk of being involved in an accident.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Our basic premium has increased almost 25%, although I guess we were a bit lucky last year in that L&V returned the best quote and were also offering £70 cash back (which paid out.) This year cash back is £20 via cashbackkings.
The written renewal we’ve just received (almost 4 weeks before the policy is due so not bad going) is £40 more expensive than an online quote, which in turn, proved to be cheaper via the L&V website, rather than through the comparison sites.
It did ask you to specify whether you were existing policy holders (we told the computer yes) but out of curiosity we tried both options and it returned a cheaper quote for existing rather than new customers anyway.0 -
My quotes are cheaper than my renewal quote this year the maximum being £150. (I live in London hence my quotes are high.)
However I can't really do a comparison to last year as my car is different.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

You will be wasting your time. They will reject the claim, and if you were to pursue it to court you would lose. Changes to your future insurance premiums are not considered as uninsured losses.0 -
Mine just came in last month and it was only a few pounds higher than last year. Given that claims rise during a recession, that was no surprise.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
